Because you start last if you change engines after the initial inspection after unloading the car from the truck.

Thats not the case...the rule is that teams are only allowed to use one engine for the ENTIRE weekend. Once the car has gone through intital inspection, and engine or transmission change results in moving to the rear of the field.

Any equipment changes made after the preliminary inspection and beginning of the first practice session result in the competitor starting at the back of the field.

NASCAR's initial reasoning for this was to discourage teams from making major changes to their vehicles after arriving and learning what other teams were doing differently. It's a method of handicapping teams that seek to gain a competitive edge after arriving at the track.

No, The car had already been presented to NASCAR for inspection so they could go out in practice, therefore.. The motor was already submitted through the inspection process and in order to qualify for a position, and hold that position until the race..you must go through initial inspection, practice, qual, prac, race w/ the same motor.

That is a rule. It it one of your dumb rules that NASCAR has came up with to help cut cost so some of the less funded teams can spend less money on there cars.
Then they made the top 35 in points are automatic in the race.
