I broke down when we were poor last week and got Seargent's flea and tick stuff for cats under 5 pounds; its the combo kind that was also supposed to kill ticks etc. I've never bought the cheap crap before, and had bought the stuff that worked. Of course, Seargent's did not work; They are still infested. Needless to say, I wish I hadn't done it and just waited to get the good stuff.
Is it safe to buy some Advantage / frontline (any one of the good ones) and apply some or should I wait?
The cats had no adverse reaction to the Seargents.

Frontline is usually OK to apply soon after stuff like this. I've often applied it to an animal just the day after it's had pet shop rubbish on it, I don't like to wait while there are fleas jumping around!

However, I don't know what drug is in Sergeants so I would give a vet a call and double check that fipronil (Frontline) won't interact with whatever drug is in Sergeants.

Sorry you cracked and used this junk, but thanks for demonstrating what I constantly try to tell people - store bought flea treatments don't work!

EDIT: I really can't BELIEVE people have been yapping on about bloody Dawn Dish soap again! It doesn't prevent fleas, it just washes them off and then they maybe drown - what is the point in this?! You presumably know this, but it just bugs me SO much.

EDIT: Oh that's also a good point by grinninh - you could call the Merial customer service number on the box, they'll know their product best obviously. This would be the number a vet would call if they weren't sure about interactions with other drugs.

Frontline is a good brand. I have learned, though, that if you don't get it down on the skin where it can be absorbed into the bloodstream, it won't do any good. Considering that it was an animal control that applied it, they should know this, so I tend to agree with the other two answers; maybe you just have too many fleas. Vacuum, vacuum, VACUUM! Wash all the bedding! wash the cats bed. If you bathe the cat, wait until at least two days after treating them with a topical. I recommend a shampoo called De Flea. It works well, and it contains no pyrethrins. I've safely used it on kittens as young as four weeks. If you treat your house with flea spray, De Flea makes that too. Better yet, flea bomb the whole house. Then do it again a month later to get all the ones that have hatched since.

DO NOT use multiple types of flea and tick treatments. In the mean time try using a room fogger to get rid of the fleas in the house. If you use this product make sure the kittens are free of fleas or they will reinfect the house. Dawn dish soap will kill the fleas, but may dry out their skin.

Frontline can usually be applied as soon as 24 hours depending on the product previously applied. On your box of frontline there is a customer service number you can call to get the absolute answer.

I would talk with your vet about possible side effects of combining flea meds, especially for kittens that young.

In the mean time, you could use a flea comb without adding any more chemicals to their systems.

I used Advantage for Kittens on my 6 month old kitten... and no more fleas. Call the vet and see if it can be used on 3 mo. olds as well.

Sweetie... go out and buy some of the "blue" Dawn dish liquid... Wash the kittens in some lukewarm water, and use the Dawn as shampoo. I don't know why, but it does kill fleas. But you have to get the "blue" kind.
