Wild Salmon is usually very vibrant pink in color. Unless it states that it is Wild Salmon, it is most likely farmed.

Not necessarily. There are wild and farmed fresh water salmon and there are wild and farmed salt water salmon. The label is your only clue.

And, by the way, the term "Freshwater Salmon" refers to salmon that NEVER go to the ocean, such as kokanee salmon that live in fresh water lakes and spawn in the rivers feeding those lakes.

No, no, no. Let me tell you a thing or two about wild salmon...

Wild salmon are free and untamed.
They answer to no-one, they are above the law.
Their presence alone can make even the hardest gunslinger throw down his shooting irons and walk away.
When a wild salmon speaks, you damn well better listen up.

Freshwater salmon on the other hand...

Like to make daisy chains and frolick in the meadow.
Give each other manicures.
Listen to ABBA.

So as you can see, the differences are huge.

"wild" salmon, means salmon born in the wild. All salmon eventually return to the fresh water stream where they were born to spawn and then they die. "freshwater" salman is usually just a fancy way of saying raised in a fish farm. The big difference is wild salmon have pink firm tasy and healthy flesh while farm raised is white, soft and not to great tasting. Be careful though, they have started adding red die to the farm raised salmon to fool you. If the label says "color added" it is farm raised.

Most salmon are born in freshwater and then migrate to the sea, only to return when they want to breed.

well i live in alaska as i am guessing you do to from you question. I love fishing and know that when salmon spawn they for one, stop eating when they come in to fresh water and they consume the nutrient's in their flesh and it becomes clear and, spawning taints the flavor of fish and, if you have ever caught a spawned out salmon you would see they actually rot and mold.btw bears still eat it after they spawn i hope this helps CameRon H

not necessarily. Wild salmon is salmon caught in the river or lakes. It is not reised in captivity in a "farm."

Salmon spawn in freshwater then spend their lives in the sea only to return to their original spawning 'ground' to lay eggs or fertilise and then die.

So the answer is YES.
