Like, if you didn't touch the person and you were just in the sort-of perimeter of the person at some points during the course of a day, would you most likely catch the sickness of that person? Whether, cold, flu, etc.?

no, colds, flu, most illnesses in fact are transferred physically, usually hand to mouth. The only common airborne disease in this country is Tuberculosis, and then you need to be in close contact in an enclosed space. So as long as you did not touch anything the sick person touched, you will be fine, and if you washed your hands frequently you never have to worry about what you touch. So wash frequently.
