God Bless you for your question....
I used to think the same thing...but the more I studied the Scriptures, the more it became clear to me that anything we put between us and God is an idol, or another god.
By this I mean that if the reason I don't go to church on Sunday is because I will miss the first few minutes of a football game, then my god is football, not God. If the reason I don't evangelize is because I am scared to talk about God, then my god is fear. If the reason I don't go serve in the mission field is because my family wouldn't like it, then my family is my god.
Whatever you serve at the expense of your relationship or call to serve with the living God is a false god. Whether that is a thing, or whether it is a mindset. If it takes you away from serving God, it is a false god.

It is quite possible that He was warning us about some of the fallen angels (demons, we'd call them today) who were posing as "gods" and leading thousands away from the one true God.
You might note that Egypt's "gods" lost the battle. That isn't the only battle, either. I'm thinking of Jezebel's priests of "Baal" who could not get their "god" to bring fire to his own burnt offerings. Elijah, the only representative of the one true God had challenged Baal, and evidently Baal failed to make an appearance. Maybe Egypt's "gods" had clued him in...don't tangle with that God...He's too powerful!
Or, then again, maybe the "gods" in question are no more than chunks of wood and/or stone.
Six of one, or half a dozen of the other???

if you research those "gods" like Baal, Ashera, and the like, you find that the power they have is not real. Slight of hand and other magic tricks are man made. Now that is not to say that Satan could not offer up some power to those "gods" so that people would stray from the God. Of course I am not privy to that information file yet. I am waiting for my promotion then I will let you know the real deal.

Well the religions that worship that God, would have you believe that there are no other Gods. This would be untrue. Polytheism, worship of multiple Gods, is the in fact THE OLDEST religion. To claim that your religion is right and the others are wrong is just plain stupid. The other religions just fire back with the same argument. There is truth in all religions, as well as lies. The trick is to know where to look and how to discern it all.

In the OT & the NT there are passages that say that the people who are worshipping idols are offering their sacrifices to demons. So there are supernatural beings who seek to gain the worship of humans but they are not gods.

The God of the bible is the only God that exists. whilst the bible teaches God is a "jealous" God it ability he does not like human beings worshipping fake gods. it truly is particularly displeasing to him. in case you will take it sluggish to income the bible, you will see that even Israel ran after fake gods time and time back of their background, continuously being taken into bondage, or another undesirable destiny going on to them whilst they abandoned the single real God.
