You can't catch diabetes by just sitting beside someone, eating after someone, or anything like that. Diabetes is not catching, because I have diabetes. It's a blood sugar disorder, not a disease that someone can catch off of someone you sit by.
Anyone that tells you that diabetes is contagious is wrong. Diabetes is a blood disorder that you are born with, or get later on in life. The best way to learn about diabetes, is go to your doctor and let him or she explain it to you.

Diabetes is a disease in which you lack insulin that is a substance that you need to break down sugar, digest it. As far as I know its not transmitted from one person to another but you get it because of genetics, or weight problems. Kids generally don´t know about how disease are transmitted or obtained that is way they make fun of things they don´t understand.
As far as I understand you have no danger of getting said disease if you are friends with this kid, why don´t you ask a teacher to explain what diabetes is to your class so everyone understands what is going on with this kid and stop this silly accusations.

That is a very cruel way to treat a kid with a disease. Could it be possible that they don't understand what it is or maybe it scares them. If I were in his class, I would ask the teacher to explain to them about diabetes and give them a better understanding of it.

That is very rude... people should not do that. Did you not inform the school authority. I would sit by that kid anytime and be his friend even tho i am older. Maybe a big brother to him, yeah. Oh by the way you dont get diabetes by touch or anything.

Diabetes is an autoimmune disease and it is not contagious.
Tell your friends in school that they will reap what they are sewing. Making fun of someone with diabetes could cause them to receive a worse disease in their body. A curse without a cause does not come. They will account to God for every idle word spoken. It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of Almighty God. Guard your tongue because it holds the power of life and death to yourself.

Kids are stupid that is a fact of life. Just tell the kid to not mind, trying to interfere would probably just make things worst. Being overprotective won't solve things, that kid needs to learn how to survive in the real world, believe me things will get better, humans are amazingly resourcefully when under pressure.
Edit
Fixed, for a moment i though you where the parent of the kid

Sounds like the teacher should be taking this opportunity to be explaining to the class what diabetes is.
If she doesn't know all the answers herself, she could bring in a Health Nurse to explain to the class.
Make it a reason to learn something new, and to demonstrate to the children, how they should be treating people, who they think are different.

People fear what they don't understand.
Be an example. Treat him with kindness. If anyone gives you sh*t about it, start the ball rolling by asking: "Why's everyone else afraid of him? He can't pass anything on to you. How would you feel if you were him?"
Most students are insecure, and desire to fit in to a clique. They won't jeapordize any standing they have by risking something so outside the box as this.
It's simple psychology, but be sure to ask questions of anyone who confronts you. "Why do you feel you have to rip on him?" "How would it make YOU feel if you were him?" Make them THINK.
They've got to grow up sometime. Besides, one of the horrors of life is that we don't stay healthy forever. Someday it might well BE you in his position. You'd do good to remember that.

Ignorance breeds cruelty. What's a more interesting question is this - " Since you know what's going on are you going to sit next to this kid and show the others what bravery and honor looks like?"
