medical school is long and hard, the chances are that if you couldnt do well in high school, you probably wont apply yourself enough to do well in medical school. If you really want to and think you can stick it out, go for it, but you'd be the exception. to be realistic though, I don't think theres much of a chance. 9 out of 10 people like that will quit before getting the degree.

I don't think so personally, but I never really asked. I do know some of my classmates did poorly in college for a year or two, went elsewhere (the Army is a popular theme), grew up, and did well when they returned to college. You have to do some soul-searching here. Medicine requires that you be intelligent and driven. If you have what it takes, go for it. If it's just a dream and you don't have the ability, it might be best to think along other lines.

Yes.

Several of my friends in medical school did not do well in high school, but they made it through medical school.

However, they all have something in common - diverse background/interest, decently strong college/post-graduate education, very strong sense of dedication and work ethics, and willingness to sacrifice their live for the profession.

It does not take a genius to become a doctor. However, it does take a lot of hard work and dedication to be one. It takes compassion and understanding to be a good one.

Yes and it didn't make any difference,I went to a college prep high school and every class that was given, was toward getting into any college.
This is the type of school where any class offered was not like taking auto shop, you were going to end up at the spot in life that you wanted.
Bottom line,GPA had to be kept at minimum2.8 and if it wasn't kept there you had hell to pay.

My older brother did very poorly in High School. I mean C-D average. He went to Rutgers where he decided what he wanted to do. He wanted to be a doctor and knew he had to pick it up, He graduated from Rutgers with nearly a 4.0 GPA and did very well on his MCAT. He is now a sophomore at NYU medical school.

I have known a few who did badly in school but returned to education years later and became succesful doctors.
It takes a special kind of person to become a doctor and the motivation to help others can help overcome the academic rigour.

Yes, I know one who went to trade school, then spent time in the military. One day his first sergeant said to him, "You know (Blank), you could amount to something if you applied yourself seriously. He did, came back to the USA, got his GED, finished college and went to medical school. On retirement he received many accolades for an outstanding career.

Well, it depends whether or not the factors that caused you to do poorly in high school are still at work. All that matters is applying yourself.
