They seek to obey Christ's command to preach "the good news" (see Matt 24:14; 28:19,20).
Jehovah's Witnesses have the true religion. They are Christian (of course), but they are unique for their rejection of paganisms, use of God's personal name, and global preaching by every active adherent. No other religious organization can claim such purity of worship.
These facts about Jehovah's Witnesses are perhaps relevant to this question. The more one compares this Christian religion with others, the more remarkable it is shown to be.
1. Jehovah's Witnesses have no paid clergy. Yet they remain tightly organized with more than 6.5 million active Jehovah's Witness preachers (about 16 million associate themselves with the religion). Even fulltime preachers and workers at their branch offices are unpaid volunteers.
2. There is no elite class among Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the few 'anointed' among them enjoy no special privileges in their congregations on earth. An anointed person (one of those relative few with a heavenly hope) is not elevated above his fellow congregants in any way, and he may not even qualify for appointment as a simple 'deacon' or elder. There are no titles; EVERYONE is addressed as 'brother' or 'sister'.
3. No person benefits economically from the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the 8 to 20 men who serve on their Governing Body receive simply room, board, medical care, and reimbursement for certain personal expenses according to the exact same provision as every other branch volunteer.
4. About a hundred men have served on Jehovah's Witnesses' Governing Body committee during the past 125 years or so. The vast majority of them have spent the vast majority of their adult lives volunteering for their organization's purposes, and the vast majority have died faithfully and near-pennilessly while still under their legal 'vow of poverty'.
5. Amazingly, Jehovah's Witnesses did not splinter as a sect from some other religion. Instead, a truly tiny but sincere group of bible students studied only the Scriptures to determine the will of God. Thus their religion remains absolutely independent of and not carrying the sins of Christendom's history, yet carries the authority of Christ's teachings.
6. Despite the distortions of anti-Witnesses, throughout their modern history Jehovah's Witnesses have refused to claim divine inspiration or infallibility for their teachings. They have pointed to the bible (and not any particular translation) as the only inspired infallible means of knowing God's thoughts. For over 125 years, their teachings have been presented as merely the results of sincere bible research by imperfect but godly humans.

"The man told me ... that I would be going to hell." In case anybody actually believes that a Jehovah's Witness said this, I should point out - Jehovah's Witnesses DON'T BELIEVE IN HELL! And it always seems strange to think that people suppose that saying that you're a Christian will make a difference. That's great - it means you believe in Jesus and the Bible like us! Don't you know Jesus spent his whole time talking to people who already had a religion, and yet you think that we who imitate Jesus will leave when we find that someone has a religion? What on earth makes anyone think that? Or that we will leave indefinitely because someone is having a bad time in their life? Is that what Jesus would do? People whose relatives had died, people who had problems - those are the very people we hear of Jesus caring about the most! It's probably the very reason a witness is so concerned about getting back to you. A simple hint - whatever you imagine Jesus doing in a situation, with the exception of working miracles, that's pretty much how you can expect Jehovah's Witnesses to react. Do you think telling Jesus you're a Christian would make him lose interest in you? Then it's not going to make JW's lose interest either. Do you think telling Jesus your aunt had died would make him lose interest in you? Then it's not going to make JW's lose interest either - if anything, they will be more interested in you, as Jesus no doubt would be. Do you think telling Jesus you don't want him to speak to you anymore and you don't want to know anything more about God would make him lose interest in you? Then that's the way to stop the witnesses calling.

Been there. Done that.
Put up a "no solicitations" sign. If they come back, point the sign out to them and inform them that they are trespassing. Tell them to leave, or the police will be called. Then shut the door. If they knock again, call the cops: They ARE trespassing, and they've been warned. Anyone who visits your property and is told to leave is trespassing if they do not do as you wish. Even the cops need a warrant or at least very good reason to be on your property without your consent or invitation.
If they decide, instead, to leave pamphlets on your property, use the contact information on the pamphlet to warn them about littering. They can legally mail you material without your consent--but they can't carry it on to your property and leave it. Newspapers, for example, are something you subscribed to--and that's legally seen as an invitation to leave the paper somewhere on your premisis. But if it asks for money, membership, or purchase, it's an advertisement and therefore a solicitation. That's a no-no.
Once they know how serious you are, they'll leave you alone. I haven't been visited in quite some time; but before I did anything about it, they were very annoying.

Jehovah God's will is that all sorts of people come to an accurate knowledge of the truth. Jesus gave us a commandment to preach, he said go and make disciples. Jehovah wants people to learn about him because he is our Creator and he loves us. Jehovah is the happy God and he wants us to be happy. I am so happy that the Witnesses came to my door and there are millions around the world that feel the same way.

I was going to explain what they're thinking as I was a JW for 20 years. If you're not interested, why even wonder? Basically, make sure that they get the message by telling them to put you on their 'do not call' list. Make sure that they know it means NOT EVER because they might just be less frequent visitors if you don't. You can add that if you want to learn more about the Witnesses, you will go to their church on Sunday or next time you bump into them.

we are not soliciting so if you put up a no soliciting sign, we still ring your door bell. learn what a cult is. I am tired of people calling us a cult. a cult live together and worship man. we live in our own homes and worship Jehovah God. we also work on jobs in the community. a cult does not work. we go door to door because Jesus Christ commanded us at Matthew 28 verse 19 and 20. if you don't want them to come back, tell them to put your name on the do not call list or call the kingdom hall in your neighborhood and ask to speak to an elder.

Their motive is a command from God, to do what they do. They are obeying a command to find and feed Jesus sheep.
Consider yourself fortunate they do visit you regularly. Should you change your mind and they stopped coming, they would be blood guilty of your loss of eternal life.
Best leave well enough alone. Jehovah knows better than man.

Being part of their church means doing the house to house visits. That is how they believe in evangelizing their 'word'.
However, they are not to be considered Christians as they do not see Jesus as the Son of God, sacrificed and raised from the dead. Their translation of the Bible is faulty and misleading.
Be careful as they are very well versed their their interpretation. I always state that I'll only welcome a discussion if they truly believe that Jesus Christ is God, Lord and alive.

Hang up a No Solicitation sign at your door and if they continue to come by call the police.
They are very bothersom and rude. I would love to find out where one lives and go pounding on his door and tell him he needs to convert to Catholicism, se what he/she thinks of that.

They want your soul (and your wallet, since a good Jehovah's Witness tithes to the church). Tell them that if they don't quit coming around harassing you, you'll call the cops and have them arrested for trespassing. If she comes around again, then do it.
