They're the safest SUV on the road. Due to the automatic 4WD systems available on all models. Jeep has front and rear stabilizer bars, as opposed to the Ford Explorer which has only a rear stabilizer bar. The handling and stability of a Jeep is greater than other comparable SUV's on the market.

Yes they will still roll over if driven incorrectly, but they seem to be more stable than other SUV's.

I own a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have taken it through places that you couldn't get a Ford Explorer to go without getting stuck or breaking something. I also own a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon which has the Rock-Trac 4WD system. My Grand Cherokee has Quadra-Trac.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee's have more comfort and convenience options than other comparable SUV's and have more engine choices, the drawback is they are only offered with an automatic transmission. Currently there are 3 available 4WD systems available on all Grand Cherokee models. Quadra-Trac 1, which is full time 4WD without low range mode. Quadra-Trac 2, is also a full time 4WD system, but has low range mode and neutral which allows for towing on all 4 wheels. Quadra-Drive, is full time also with limited slip front and rear axles and also low range and neutral.

If you would like to view all available 4WD systems offered in all Jeep vehicles go here http://www.jeep.com/4x4/.

Depending on what year you look at, older Jeep Grand Cherokees also offered Select-Trac 4WD which was a part time and full time transfer case offering 4WD hi part/full time, neutral, and 4 low.

get the 4.0L inline 6 cylinder... they're great, run forever, safe, and they look clean- you could be a young or old and still look cool.... (i drive a 97 gr. cherokee with the inline 6) i change my own oil, and it has 190,000 miles on it and still runs excellent... i've only had to do a couple things to it... (water pump, alternator, and normal wear and tear) oh, and its a hatch so if you hook up some bump in there it sounds great!!! enjoy it and take care of it, it will last a while.....

****the guy down there saying they are prone to rolling over is wrong... as far as suv's go they hold the road very well.

They are realiable. Your folks will not have to worry as much you driving in the rain, snow, whatever. I won't turn into a crushed beer can if you get hit. You can drive your folks around in comfort because it has rear environment controls. You can't really drive it like its a race car. Any moron can work on it (I know, I do all my own maintanence amd most of the repairs).

Jeeps are great vehicles (both on and off road), and are very reliable. Parts and accessories are abundant and easy to find.

They're not particularly safe - in fact, they're somewhat prone to rollover.
