But what if they are searching and die before their search is over?

Exactly.

God is neither merciful nor just in sending people to eternal torment when they saw no evidence to believe in it.

It would be more difficult to argue against them if they claimed that the person only had to suffer for 100 years, but even that is cruel.

Remember: if God is infinitely loving, no one should suffer anyway in the afterlife. That's not even mentioning the current one.

It is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE to reconcile a benevolent God with the existence of endless suffering for those who do not believe in it. You WILL FAIL if you try to force your idea to work.

EDIT: To the one who said we have to be kept out of Heaven, allow me to remind you that God could show itself to us in the afterlife so that we have a chance to believe through direct experience. God could also create a place for us that is not Heaven or New Earth, but is not endless suffering. You seem to suggest that there are only two possibilities, even though God could do anything.

And for the one who said it is not our place to say what is fair to God, you're succumbing to ignorance of language. Justice and love have definitions: that's how we can use the words. They vary somewhat, but they still exist. If we apply that meaning to God, God falls short.

This issue really angers me because it means people are willing to worship a God who makes their fellow man suffer forever. What terrible people...

If they're searching and die before they finish searching, then maybe God will give them time. That would seem the fair thing to do.
If God was going to be mean about it, and was a harsh old geezer, wouldn't He just send everyone to hell? I don't think He actively wants to send people there. I'd guess it's more that He wants them to be with Him. Though I could be wrong.

YEs this is very fair. God gave us all a certain measure of faith. He tells us this clearly in His word. HE gave us a whole Bible to know and to learn and stay in study about. We have all heard of the Bible and prayer, and if noone will do that, its not Gods fault. WE have until we die or Jesus comes again to choose for Jesus. we are either fully His or we are fully Not His at all. The Bible is clear and its Gods love letter to everyone. BUt, if ppl wont read it and wont obey it, dont blame God. PPL want to live a lifetime of sin and then just before they die, say ok I am ready now GOd. Doesnt work like that. Thats not love of God, let alone obedience. If we love God , we want to serve Him now and lead as many as we can to Him. So what good is it if I am saved last minute, but I never got to tell anyone, even my family?? Thats not love for God or your fellow man.
We all have been told and God tells us HE has given us all a certain measure of faith, to act on, or to run from. Its all choice. So if ppl want to try and put this off till they day, well Good luck. what if five minutes from now is your last breath?? What if Jesus came in five minutes, would you KNOW you are saved?
Its so odd too, as ppl have such a hard time believing inGod and creation, saying where did God come from? Bible says He always was. But, they can so easily get into the big bang theory and evolution. WEll were did the gases and all that come from that exploded? HUH
If I showed you a car, and said noone made it, an explosion happened last night and it just came from all that, noone would believe me. They would laugh, yet ppl will hear of all this secular nonsense and say Oh I believe that, that we just happend, but I cant believe in a God I cant see.
Faith is still belieivng just cuz GOd says, no one can proof where it all started, but we can see which one makes the most sense. Intelligent design, or evolution.
Us humans are so delicate and intrinsic, major nervous systems, vasular, all of it, and this all just fit together by accident/ NOw that takes a leap of faith.
God says Faith is believe in things you cant see, but you still believe. and faith to know somethings you cant see, but on eday you will.
This message has to catch on as Jesus is coming soon, and we are either fully His or we arent His at all.
Choose soon and wisely... too big a thing to risk losing out on , HEAVEN.

Since a person who had not choosen to follow God has never been reborn, he would still have a fallen nature that will keep returning to sin. If he were let loose in the middle of heaven, the results would be that heaven would be reduce to the same condition as the earth - with sin and death running rampage again.

So it is not that God is "punishing" them forever, but rather that he has to keep them out in order to protect the rest of heaven from their influence.

It is no different then we lock away a murderer, rapist, child molester, etc for the rest of their lives to protect society from them.

If it genuinely took someone a hundred years to make up their mind about something that important, then they're probably not smart enough to be accountable for their actions.

Most people *are* smarter. . .they just let their pride or intellectualism get in the way of choosing God. In that case, no choice IS a choice, and they are most definitely responsible for their actions.

Why would he want to wait 100 yrs and choose Him right before he dies??

no but is it fair to flood the whole world, or to kill the first born child, or to watch his children suffer under the hands of governments who care about themselves more than others. Nothing god does is fair or has any point.

Just how long do you think would be "long enough" for people to choose? Suppose God gave people 1,000 years. Couldn't someone claim that that's not long enough either?

Yes, it's fair. God gave the person unlimited opportunities to accept and believe in Him, but that person chose to live life selfishly for him/herself instead. It was by their own choice, and they must suffer the consequences.

In the blble God says those that diligently seek me will find me. It also reads that tommorow is guranteed to no man, today is the day of salvation. God in His mercy gives us every oppurtunity & if we don't repent it will be our fault. All I had to say was please God show me if you are real & He answerd my prayer. Thank you Jesus amen
