When you say an import car, I think we will all have to say yes we would as the great British motor industry does no longer exist unless you still drive a rover (pre Honda). If you mean a GREY IMPORT which is not destined for the U.K market then of course i would as who would not want a higher spec car with no rust and half the price, (trade price). To all that have never owned a grey import then you really are missing out.

Yes I would, because the best ones still come from Japan. German cars I would avoid, too complex, unreliable and expensive to fix. Cars from the Big 3 are often made in Mexico and Canada, and as far as I am concerned that is an import. I personally would not buy one. Not so much due to their country of origin, but their inferior design. I am a little disappointed in Toyota, in the quest to become number 1, quality has slipped a lot. Honda has had transmission problems on the V6's, but overall is probably the most dependable brand overall.
I look for reliability, design/quality and resale value. As of now, the domestics are improving, but still have a ways to go.

I have two imports and two American cars. so I'm even.
But seriously with the world economy of today there is no such thing as an American car or a Japanese car anymore. Dodges are made in Mexico, Fords in Canada, Honda's in Kentucky and BMW's is South Carolina. Chevy sells cars built in Korea. Saturns are imported from Europe. Hyundai's are made in Alabama. The examples are endless.
Sure GM and Ford have their corporate offices in the US and until recently Dodge was owned by a German company so really what is an American car?
I drive the only Japanese car sold in America that is still made in Japan. A Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart.

Nope. The problem with imports is they cost a fortune to fix, especially for parts. People have gone on for years about how great Japanese cars are, but everyone I know who has owned a Japanese car has had trouble with it. Heck, Toyota recalled more cars last year than the entire Big Three combined, and right now Ford and GM are kicking the absolute crap out of the Japanese in relability and customer satisfaction ratings. So I'll continue to buy American.

NO, I prefer to buy American made products whenever possible. I don't see that it is good for the US to be sending piles of money to countries that basically hate us.
