Would an updated 2006 pick up on the same threat as 2007? I don't really care for the additional features 2007 might have. I just want it to pick up new threats.

Both versions will do two things. They will give you up to date protection and slow down the response of your computer. Norton and McAfee both have a large overhead and because of it make response a lot worse as they check things. Avast and AVG free are much small images and work really well in protection. For a pay system use PC-cillin from TrendMicro. Great ability and no adverse effect of the system.

Look at getting something like Windows Live OneCare. It provides Anti-virus, Anti-spyware, Anti-malware. It also does tunes performance on your PC such as running disk defrag on a schudule. OneCare also gives you a simple way to backup your PC to an external harddrive, DVD-R, CD-R, or tape drive. IT also monitors your PC firewall to make sure it is one and tells you when programs are allowed access to the internet.

It is much faster, takes less system resources and is simple to use compared to Norton and even AVG. I have used McAfee, Norton, AVG, CA eTrust in the past and prefer OneCare for my home PC.

You can even get a free trial for 90-days from http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm. And you can buy it from Amazon for around $20 per year. Much better than the free AVG and Norton.

It is not worth it to buy Norton Internet security at all. It is just a bunch a ridiculous, superfluous bloatware that will make you spend more resources trying to get it to work right and not damage your system.

Uninstall all traces of McAfee and Symantec software from your system. Go to FREE.GRISOFT.COM, download and install AVG Antivirus, then DOWNLOAD.COM and download "Startup Mechanic," and occasionally run "Spybot - Search and Destroy," and you will be a happy camper.

Hi,
What you should do is just use "AVG" it's free and comes with free updates as well and has never let me down, and the best thing is it's completely FREE.
