I don't have a car and I can't figure out the NJ Transit system. Can someone tell me what the best way is to get there?

I just moved to the Newport area of Jersey City and to the guy who said go to the station, while that is an ingenious answer, we do not have a station here, just ticket vending machines.

Thank you to to the others who posted links. I appreciate it.

You really have to be more specific.

Where in Jersey City are you starting from and what is near you in the way of public transit (Bus, train, light rail).

Where in Bergen are you going to and when (weekday, weekend, time of day etc).

Your best bet is to go to the NJ Transit site and use the Trip Planner tool:

http://www.njtransit.com/sf_tp.shtml

When the page comes up click on Itinerary Planning.

Enter all the information asked for. The result should give something you can use.

You can also call NJ Transit's "how to get there" number 1-800-772-2222.

The NJ Transit home page is www.njtransit.com

Good luck and have a safe trip.

EDIT: You moved to Newport? I work in one of the buildings on Washington Blvd. The nearest rail line is the Hudson-Bergen Light rail. It has a number of stations in the Newport area (including one in front of the Newport Center Mall). It doesn't go far into Bergen yet. The northern most stop is Tonnelle Av in North Bergen. The stops before that are Bergenline Av in Union, Port Imperial, Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken. There are 3 stops in Hoboken: 9th & Congress Sts, 2nd St and the Hoboken railroad Terminal (the train to/from Tonnelle Av does not stop at the Hoboken Terminal).

Go to the station and ask someone. That's not hard to figure out.

You can also use the transit trip planner at Trips123 which covers the NYC metro area. http://www.trips123.com/trip_planner/default.asp
