well my cat died recently. she was quite young and we have no idea how it happened. a couple of months before it happened her tummy became bald and she was sick the day before. when we found her she looked completely normal and looked as if she was sleeping. but we checked her pulse and there was none. does anyone know what could of caused her death?
and also, we have another cat that she knew since she was tiny. this cat seems to be acting very weird and upset, sniffing everything and acting completely different. should we just leave her? or should we do something like get a new cat for her?

Talk to your vet about her symptons and he might be able to shine some light on how you lost her, for which I am very sorry, losing a pet is like losing a family member. You have my sympathies.

The kitty that's left probably misses her friend and may appreciate another kitty, but you need to smother her with love and affection so that she knows she's not being replaced by a new kitty, the best thing to do is to try and get one of a similar age or if she's young enough a kitten, you can go to a local shelter or somehwere like the Cats Protection Legaue which have hundreds of cats looking for a good loving home.

Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It's always painful!
I can't think of anything that would have caused the death but I'm not a vet. If I was you I'd ring yours and ask, and perhaps take the other to be checked over. It may be that the cause is contagious in some way! At the moment she is probably looking for her friend, They don't grieve in the way we do but it does affect them in many ways, so give her time to settle down and let yourself get over losing your other cat first before getting another. Some cats become more affectionate when they are suddenly the only one, but if yours seems withdrawn and unhappy then another companion may help her.

I agree wholeheartedly with Willow. There are so many reasons why your cat died. From worms to an obstruction in the intestines. Your vet could be able to give you some idea of what happened. As for getting another cat I would wait a while and devote your love to the one you still have let her know how important she is to you, she may reject a newcomer if introduced too soon. In time a companion for her would be great.

Re your cat's death, it could have been anything that caused it. She could have had an extreme reaction to something she inadvertently ate or it could have been an illness.

Everyone grieves when they lose a loved one and cats are no different. This cat would have been like a sibling to your other cat from the sound of it and she will be missing her. Be careful about introducing a new cat to the household as all cats are different and they don't always take kindly to outsiders. They say you should go for a younger cat as a newcomer rather than an older one. They adapt better and your cat is more likely to mother a kitten than take to another adult.

Your cat could have possibly had a bacterial infection. I know that some cats react to some irritants by shedding their fur. For her to have died so suddenly and as if she was sleeping, I would assume that the infection might have got to her vital organs and just shut them down. I am sorry for your loss.

As for your other cat, she may be wondering where her buddy is, and she might even have known she was sick. I would reccommend taking her to the Vet in case your deceased cat did have something that the other might have contracted. You don't want 2 dead kitties!

If everything checks out, clean up where deceased kitty might have lingered, and if you choose to, get your cat a companion. :)

First of all, sorry for your loss. My cat died yesterday so I can empathise with you. I'm not qualified to say what could have killed your wee kit but I'd get your other cat checked just in case. When my other cat died four years ago, my Mhairi (cat who just died) acted weird too. She went to all Rhanni's wee hidey-holes and started doing things that Rhanni used to do - I swear that Rhanni used to come and visit her sister! Since they'd been together for almost 11 years, I thought that it was only natural for Mhairi to miss her. Didn't take her long to get back to normal, although she did retain some Rhanni behaviour!

the remaining cat may be mourning, she is lookingfor her friend. I would watch her closely, what caused the death of your previous cat may have been contagious, the baldness sounds like ringworm, of course there are a million other causes and I'm not a vet. I'd wait before getting another friend for the cat, and I recommend getting the other cat looked at by a vet

How sad, its such a shame!
Im not sure what the symtoms are but I know that there is a lot of cat luekimia going around?
A new cat could be a good idea as it will take her mind off it and give her some one to play with.
Sorry for your loss x

I am so sorry your cat died. Your cat might have had some kind of sickness. I'm not a vet, but that might be the case.

Now your other cat might have also been sick. Try taking your cat to the vet, because they might be able to help you. Take me advice.
