Actually, you'll find that MOST religions ARE about "God reaching down to man," but they're just different ideas of God. This has nothing to do with the definition of religion. Your point about it being a relationship is valid, but you do not need to say it isn't a religion to make that point. There's nothing inherently wrong with it being a religion...
Of course, if you separate Christianity from "relationship with Jesus," your argument becomes much better. Christianity does not resemble the teachings of Christ.
You'll probably just choose an answer that says you're all hated and persecuted and that God is the only truth, blah blah...
Perhaps you should take a step back to think clearly. You are the one creating conflict here, not us. You are doing exactly what Jesus would not want you to do...

Its easy for people to call anything having to do with God a religion. What people don't understand when calling christianity a religion is that it was created to be the opposite of religion. The new testament shows that Jesus was opposed to the idea of religion and didn't like how it turned people into manipulators in order to gain power. Many people who label christianity a religion have never read the Bible or did nothing more than skim over it. We are told that we will be persecuted for our belief in God, so it shouldn't be surprising when it happens.

Other religions hate Christianity not because Christianity is the "only true way to reach God" but because we bring it on ourselves. We tell other people that they are wrong, and we push one faith and one God. We have no 100% guarantee that we are the only ones who are right. We only have our faith that we sometimes blindly follow, when we should have our eyes open to the world around us. We have a book that was written by men that tells us our way is the only way. Inspired by God des not mean written by. People hate us because we are hypocritical and spiteful. Christians, out of the many religions I have come in contact with, are the most hateful, spiteful, and bigoted people I have ever had the misfortune of meeting - yes, my own faith. It is because of those character traits that people despise us - not for anything else. They liked our Christ, but the Christians are nothing like him.

Well first of all you based much of your argument on the premise that in other faiths, God does not reach down to people, NOT TRUE. In Hinduism, God leads us to His path by rewarding those who live righteously, and guiding those who do not. He sent Rama and Krishna to Earth to spread knowledge of the Truth.
Most faiths have a PERFECT and HOLY God. Most faiths are about establishing a relationship with a Higher Power... what do you think prayer is, and love for God? Every faith is hated by someone or another, that does not validate Christianity as the truth. And not all religions hate Chrisitianity... Hindus certainly don't.
I'm not saying that your religious views are incorrect, its just that your argument is flawed.

I'm amazed at the number of who people hang out in the religion and spirituality chat room that HATE religion and spirituality. It's kind of comical. I'm bored at work. That's why I'm in here. I also would agree with the post. Christianity has been made a religion by man's traditions. The basic idea that Christ gave us is just that we are supposed to live in relation to God. No rituals. No special relics that we need to worship. Just life. Freedom. We have complicated it, but the post is absolutely correct.

If you think Christianity is not a religion, maybe you should bring your rant to the Cats section.
Or course Christianity is a religion, it meets the definition to a "t". And not everyone else hates Christianity. For the ones that do: maybe it's because of the terrible things we've done in the name of God?

Popular misconception. Christianity tells everyone else that their ways are wrong - would you expect to be hated?? Heck, Jesus himself told you to expect it. So why are you whining about it?
And, Christianity IS a religion. This BS about it being a relatioonship with God is a joke.

Bullshit. People hate Christianity for the arrogance you just displayed. Its not a problem with Christianity itself, its a problem with the followers. As for "relationship with god" bullshit.... by that estimation EVERY religion on the planet "isn't a religion, its a relationship with said god". You are so full of it. You want to know why people dislike Christianity? You just proved why.

You Sir are SPOT ON!!! Even though there are many here who rail against U, they seem to Forget that God in Gen.11: Destroyed the "Tower of Babel" BECAUSE MAN WAS TRYING THROUGH RELIGION TO REACH UP TO HIM!!!!!!! Then in Rev. 17 & 18 we see God Destroy "Mans Religious System" for their "MURDEROUS DECEPTIVE SORCERY" causing the "LOSS OF MENS SOULS" and the "False Prophet & Beast" are cast into Hell in Rev. 19:20&21!!! I also notice that so far none who speak against U do so with Scripture??? John

Christianity is a religion. that "not a religion" thing is just marketing, like the "don't call it a phone" commercials.
As for the hate...
Theists, especially christians, try to control and restrict us based on their views. If all christians stop crusading against science, culture, art, sex and sexuality, religious freedom and such, and stop telling everybody else they're going to be tortured throughout eternity unless they join you, I assure you that you won't encounter nearly as much hostility.
Read Letter to a Christian Nation to understand how harmful your religion is - more americans are killed every year by christian opposition to medical research than by terrorists.
As for the 'truth':
Did you know that there is a difference between your beliefs and the objective truth?
Did you know that not knowing this makes christians seem incredibly unintelligent and narrow minded?
Did you know that your jesus is just a rehash of earlier, cooler gods?
