Is it vista ultimate or home premium?

Out of all the versions of Windows Vista, Ultimate is by far the best choice. Vista Ultimate is exactly as the name protrays, the ultimate version.

Vista Home is simply lacking many of the features that Ultimate has. While Vista Home as the Media Center, it does not have some of the features of Ultimate. I would never purchase Vista Home because of what is lacks.

Vista Ultimate has the most power at configuration of the Operating System and has the most powerful security, but with the network and file and print sharing. With Ultimate you have the ability to join to a Domain, use Group Policy, fine tune File Sharing, encrypt files and folders, and also if joined to a Workgroup instead of a Domain as it usually is at a home, you have the power to configure Local Policies and group policies.

Vista Home is a shadow of Ultimate and is not worth purchasing. If you want the most configurability then go with Utlimate. However, if you only want a basic Media experiance and don't care about having real power in file sharing or configurability of your users and groups then go with Vista Home. There is a website which shows all the different features of the versions, but I found it failed to fully explain some very important factors. For example: It failed to tell that Home does not have the ability to use group policy or local policy or fine tune sharing.

If you have been using Windows XP Media Center then you are going to want Vista Ultimate. The reason? Simply because Media Center is actually XP Pro with Media Center added on. Media Center has all the capabilities of XP Pro, except the ability to join a domain. That is not true with Vista Ultimate.

If you have been using Windows XP Home, and have been wanting to use a more fully functional Media Center, then go with Vista Home as you won't miss the features it lacks. If you have been using Media Center Edition but have not utilized any of the more advanced features I outlines above, then go with Vista Home as you won't miss these feaure. If you have been using the more advanced features of Media Center then go with Ultimate as you will miss these in Vista Home Premium.

If you are just starting out with computers, or only want to browse the web, use e-mail and office programs, then go with Vista Home Basic. You won't have the more visual poping effects of Home Premium, but you also don't pay the much higher costs for them either. If you have been using XP Home, and wish to move up to something more sofisticated, with Media Center capabilites, then Home Premium is a good choice.

Anyone who is moderately to highly skilled with computers, Ultimate is the only choice! lol

Good luck in choosing your edition and much fun with it once you have it. Don't listen to those nay sayers who are complaining about Vista. Of course there are a few issues to be ironed out, all new releases have these. Microsoft will be releasing a Service Pack soon, so not to worry. The visuals are super and the funtionality and features are super. Bugs will always need to be worked out, as proven by all the automatic updates Windows XP receives on a monthly basis!

I use Vista and have not had a problem with it...I also use office 2007 and have not had a problem with that either.
There are currently 8 versions of Vista and each is targeted at a different customer base or users group.
Which one you use will depend on what your needs are:

1. Windows Started 2007 - MS won't even call it Vista, because it is very limited
2. Vista Home Basic Edition - for home users
3. Vista Home N...same as # 2 but without media player...this version was mandated by the courts.
4. Vista Home Premium - home users with many features for home Business users
5. Vista Business Edition - small business users
6. Vista Business N - Business Edition withour Media Player
7. Vista Enterprise Edition - extra bells & whistles needed for a large corporate betwork and has additional security enhancements....and -
8. Vista Ultimate - includes everything that the Home Premium and Enterprise editions has -plus goodies that may change from time to time.

Pick the one that fits your needs best. remember this is the first release (besides the beta) and there will be updates and patches as we move along.

but again...I consider myself a power user and have had NO problems with vista thus far.
---note - i want to suggest that which ever edition you purchase, please go to your local bookstore and get a book on the Vista OS...it will assist you greatly

Good luck

Ultimate is the best for the advanced users but for most people home premium is the best, because it saves money and the extra features that you gain in ultimate are more for businesses and advanced users. One of my friends is a computer technician and he said if he were to buy vista again he would buy home premium rather then the ultimate.
PS: vista isnt much different then XP exept for some security updates and cooler graphics, other wise it's the same. I have personally had less problems with vista then I did with windows XP.

with vista ultimate u get so many of the features (all of them) that it becomes somewhat hard to navigate. but with home premium you get a good balance of features for people who aren't looking for business solutions but rather school and fun

the place do you get $two hundred from? the type between homestead worry-unfastened and homestead maximum suitable at OEM cost point isn't any greater effective than $80. If everyone's charging you $two hundred to "improve" while ordering a sparkling laptop, bypass someplace else. i offered a pc with homestead maximum suitable already on it, "off the shelf". it truly is large except you may desire to get it to hook up with an internet site (in case you're making use of it in an workplace or connecting remotely to an workplace).

vista ultimate is the "best" vista....but that is mis-leading as there is really no such thing as a good version of vista yet.

give it a year

The best version is the one they release two years from now with all the glitches and hangups worked out and IPv6 is actually common.

It depends on what you want to use it for.

Compare the features and decide what works best for you.
