How can I convince my mom to let me get an AIM SN so I can talk to my friends and crush online. I'm responsible and its not letting I'm planning to be sitting on the computer all day long. I just want it so I can talk to them when I want to without the hassle of the phone. I've showed her the info and everything so its not like I'm hiding anything from her, she's just very protective. Any advive or tips on how to convince her that its safe, and I will be repsonsible? If you need any more info please ask!

Tell her to let you download the AIM and once you're up and running she can check to see what friends you have on there and who you're talking to.
You shouldn't be talking to strangers or people you don't know because sometimes random people like to AIM sometimes... Be careful with that.
Hopefully she approves of the limited people you might have on there. And then you can give her permission to check the friends list whenever she wants.
If you have nothing to hide then give her all the open doors.

You're 13 so you are a little kid. However, I believe you can set up an under 14 or something account that restricts access to just your friends list. That might be a way to make her feel better.

What? You can't have screen name? How old are you? I never even thought of denying someone that before-it seems silly.
The thing to do, to demonstrate to your mom that you are handling it maturely is to say: "Why don't we give it a test run? If after a bit you feel I am not handling it properly or you disapprove we will stop". This is fair. just make sure you don't mess up. If you do it will decrease her trust in your ability to handle trust issues.
Good luck!

for the longest time, my dad wouldnt let me get AIM, mostly beacuse of the risks of viruses that come when you download the software.
you can, however, still make a screen name and just use the online express version, which involves no downloading whatsoever.
this way, its not a permanent thing, so you can try it out and show your mom what it's like.
you can try and try to change your parents mind by yourself, but its easier to take small steps to show them youre being cautious and theyll come to trust you more

Let your mom know that you understand the dangers of online chatting. Let her know that your not going to talk to strangers or do anything that would violate your morals. Socializing online is a very important quality in todays soceity.

It's hard to convince her because it certainly isn't safe. I think you'd have more success if you were able to point out all the dangerous things about it and then tell her how you will deal with those things.

There are alot of news stories out there about young girls getting into trouble because of poeple they have met online. I am sure your Mom is trying to protect you. Sit down and explain to her that this is just to communicate with freinds. Offer to let her sit with you so she can see exactly what it is all about.

does she let you use yahoo? because actually, aim is a lot safer than yahoo. yahoo has chat rooms, aim doesn't. and anyone who knows your email address for yahoo or has access to it (from forwards or something) can IM you. most people don't use the aol email, so you don't have that issue. i hope this helps... :]

tell her you know better than not to talk to strangers and the only reason you want its so you can talk to your friends for free instead of having to phone and if shes still stubborn offering to lend you her phone tell her im gonna be long... and then she would have to XD
or just say fine promise me you would lend me your phone each time i wanna chat.
