Yes, in moderation though-and wash them very well-some growers use rat poison and you know what that means!!!

Fresh veggies, yes, are the best of treats. However, I LOVE looking at all the yummy stuff local petstores offer for rat treats (and there are many!). Yogies are a big hit among ratties, as well as vegetable puffs. My babies all liked nougat treats, too, such as Krunch-A-Rounds. You should feed treats in moderation, however. Overdoing it, especially if your regular food is too fatty, can cause some health problems for the ratties. Cereals such as cheerios are always good too-- just be careful about sugar content in your choices. Also, I've found that baby food is a really great treat for them. You'll quickly learn what flavors your rats like best, and you usually don't have to worry about health content. Plus, it keeps them hydrated if they become ill for any reason (God forbid). I just dab some on the inside of the baby food cap and serve it up. Also, be sure to include treats that your rats can really chew on. Wooden apple sticks and chew toys are all fine and good, but you should find some crunchy things as well for them to eat in order to keep their teeth nice and healthy. A lot of people prefer to use Greenies when it comes to their rats' teeth (you can find them at most pet stores). When it comes to rats, creativity is key. They'll like a whole range of the very same foods you eat, but it's up to you to make sure you choose what's actually best for their health.

We give our rats blueberries or chunks of strawberries on occasion & they enjoy it. I remove the peel from anything that isn't organic just to be on the safe side.
