The Spirit is pretty solid as far as definition. The spirit is that part of us that seeks out the unseen truth in our existence. It is also that part of us that naturally lets us know when we did something right and when we did something wrong. It is separate from feelings though it can spark emotions.
The Soul has been defined a couple of different ways. Some say it is the physical body (He's a good soul) Some say it is the carnal mind or the part of us that controls the flesh. I say the Soul is our being or our consciousness. The spirit is also the power source that fuels our being.
(Wow I should of been a Guru huh?) lol

Your spirit is your essential nature and the part of you capable of knowing and having communion with God. It is the immortal part of you. The soul is the intermediate part of you that interrelates between the spirit and the natural realm. It has more to do with who you are as an individual - your likes, dislikes, appetites, opinions, - who you are as distinct from any other being.
The Bible teaches we are spiritually dead - alienated from the life of God because of sin. That is why Jesus said unless a person is born again, they cannot see, or enter the Kingdom of God (See John 3:3-7). We become born again when we believe the Gospel, that Christ died for our sins and was raised from the dead, and by His intervention for us we can become re-united to God, by grace, through faith. Once this happens we become spiritually alive and fit for the kingdom of heaven. This begins also a lifelong process of renewing our souls - bringing our thinking, our feelings, our appetites and most important, our wills into harmony with the spirit. This is dependent upon coming into conformity to the Word of God, especially the New Testament writings. Finally, we are creatures that possess a body. The Gospel assures us there will one day be a resurrection of the dead, at which time our spirits will be reunited to immortal, incorruptible bodies, and we will spend eternity in the Kingdom of God.

To me, my body + my spirit = my soul....
Roque P Rojas is about right...
"Dust" is often equated with the physical...
When a spirit is added to a body, made up of physical matter (aka dust), you then have a complete soul.

Yes, there is a difference.
Your soul is your mind, your heart, your emotions.
Your spirit is what communicates with God, and how God communicates with you.
Every person has a spirit, but it is dead until God quickens it through Christ.

The living soul is composed of one's body, which was made from the dust the ground, and the spirit of life, which came from God. When you die, you return to the dust and the spirit of life returns to God.The soul is in a dormant state until God resurrects you, either to eternal life or to permanent death (annihilation).
In the bible, the word soul comes from the words nephesh and psuche. In hebrew, nephesh can even refer to animals and dead bodies.
