Yes, it is wrong to try to quiet an 8 month old by yelling. All he is going to do is scare her and make her cry. This is not how to teach a child proper behavior.
Maybe you need to look at your relationship with him. You obviously have no respect for him, and thus he has none for you. Maybe a calm discussion about discipline, with an understanding that the mother and father bring different roles to the table, will work better than getting mad. Ask him if he thinks that yelling will work. Calmly explain why you think a different approach will work better. Remember, the child is both of yours. You two need to compromise on how she will be raised.
Or you can just isolate him from raising the child, and prepare for your coming divorce.

Yelling at a child at any age is wrong. Yelling accomplishes nothing and is just displaying anger and lack of control to the child. You need to get him to stop, to a 8 month old that is emotionally abusive.

8 mo old is kinda young to yell. at 8 mos, you don't really understand what people are saying, and won't relate the yelling as a clue to be quiet. Sounds like your partner has anger management issues.

It is a controlling think. I bet you the father will only have to talk to child to get a response when the mother will probably get walk on by the kid. It true! My ex yelled at my son and he only had to tell me son to something once. When I tell my son to do something he acts like he does not hear me.

What a jerk... yelling at a helpless 8 month old. Cold hearted air head. I can tell by your name you don't feel so good yourself. Hey tell me where your husband is and I will come over and wack him over the head with a brick.

Yes it is. Think carefully before you continue this relationship. Are you sure the yelling will not escalate to shaking or hitting the baby? Your prime responsibility is to keep your daughter and any other children safe. If he is not ready to address his anger management issues it is time for you to move on.

I grew up in a military family and my step dad would always yell at my younger siblings and tell them to be quiet after spanking them. I finally got so mad I told him to grow up and act his age.
