I recently had a soldier order a CD from me. His address was an APO that said United States and had a zip code, but I had to fill out a customs form. Does mail to these types of addresses always go overseas? How does it work??

APO and FPO are domestic addresses used for sending mail to military personnel and their families overseas. The USPS delivers the mail domestically to either the fleet post office or the army post office and they take responsibility for the rest of the routing.

APO/FPO address do not always go overseas. BUT all mail goes to a a central processing area( San Francisco or NYC) where the USPS turns it over to the military. The customs form is in case the physical location is OCONUS.

Use "APO" or "FPO" like a city and AE or AP as a state.

Yes, it goes overseas so you have to use the customs form, but it only requires stateside postage.

I should add that you can only send things through the US Post Office. While the UPS store will now accept them, they also use the US Post Office and charge you extra to play the middleman.

it is common to fill out a customs form because many soliders are stationed overseas and there for one is needed also there are many restrictions on shiping to any APO or FPO address so a customs form is generally needed. you will be charged to ship within the united states but it may go over seas i suggest if you run a small business to get familiar with the diffrend postage systems and business or your business may have sever consenquences
