you think they go hand in hand? or is that just further stereotyping?

My husband and I don't smoke and my friends who have tattoos don't either.
I think it's more stereotyping. Many people still hold in their mind what a tattooed person is - they still picture the type from many years ago when that just isn't the case any longer.

Tattoos With Smoke

Although I agree that it's a stereotype as well, there are other forces at work here, not the least of which is a perpetually increasing understanding of just how *bad* smoking is for you. Even CNN had an article recently about how it damages your skin in ways similar to basking in the sun in addition to other problems.

I'm 41 now and when I was growing up the warnings were things like "this might be bad for you". Nowadays it's practically "do this and you'll die", although I think it should be nastier still. I definitely don't understand the (very few) students at the university who smoke...

There is no question that people that have tattoos are more likely to smoke. Sure you will have non-smoker folk with tattoos. Just look outside any store and see who is smoking. It is usually some tatted clerk. It makes sense if you think about it. People that smoke tend to be insecure that follow the crowd for acceptance. Thus, the folks that get tattoos are of the same mindset. It goes together like peanut butter and jelly.

I'd say thats stereotyping. I know more people with tattoos that dont smoke than do.

Infact, a LOT of the straight edge community (no drugs/alcohol/ect) are tattooed.

I'd say the percentage of non tattooed people that smoke is the same as tattooed people that smoke.

I think this one is kind of up in the air. Honestly, most people I know who have tattoos also smoke.

I dont' smoke.

But I used to.

But- that's like asking how many mothers do you think actually have minivans.

I think it's stereotyping. unfortunately.

Stereotyping Big Time.
I have 11 tattoos, and
I don't smoke at all, and
no one is allowed to
smoke in the shop.

I'd have to say its stereotyping. I have a large amount of friends who have tattoos and don't smoke, drink, or do drugs. While on the other hand, i have other friends who have zero tattoos and no want for one who choose to become involved in the previously mentioned activities.

I'm one of the first. I have tattoos and I use to have short spikey purple and red hair. People automatically assumed things of me because of that, when infact I wasn't involved in any.

Definately stereotyping. I've seen girls and guys that have tattoos. Some of them smoke, some of them are straight-edge. It all depends on if you smoke or not, not if you have tattoos.

I wouldnt call it that, and I have a flower on my back and this past weekend I added initials there. (I dont smoke) but the place smelled like smoke & insense
anyway it seems like A-LOT do smoke. as though it goes hand in hand, I guess me and my hubby are an exception.

My hubby has Marine Corps tattoo's from way back and he has never smoked (his dad & mom were chain smokers that is why he dosnt)
otherwise maybe he would he has lots of tattoos.
cant figure this one out.
good luck>>>>jen
