I have recently purchased Safety 1st knob covers for our gas stove, but after 1 month our 15 month old has already figured them out.

Did any one else have this problem? Is there another brand that someone would recommend? Please help even though he is not on his own a lot, I would hate to have him get a burn. Thanks.

Our second child was a good puzzle solver too -- cabinet locks, stove knob covers, she had it all figured out!

The only way we could keep her safe was to be vigilant and say "Danger!" whenever she got into something unsafe. She quickly learned that "danger" was different from "no" and meant that she would immediately be removed from the area if she continued to do whatever she was doing.

It took a few weeks of following her around closely and keeping tabs on her, but now at 22 months she no longer tries to turn the knobs on the stove, nor get into cupboards that are strictly off limits to her. Consistency was the key.

Kids seem to be getting smarter and smarter. My 18 month old figured out how to break an oven lock within the 1st week of having it on there when he was younger. Now his favorite thing is opening the fridge and standing in it taking all of the stuff out. Good luck finding something that works. I have just resorted to telling him no and hoping that it will work. My little one will say burn now when by the stove.

My son figured them out too so now I just take the knobs off when I'm not using the stove.

I had best luck with just taking the knobs themselves off, because the kids weren't able to twist the little posts. I kept the knobs in a basket in an upper cabinet so I could get to them easily. My husband would just twist the posts, but I couldn't manage that.

Remove the knobs when you're not using the stove. He shouldn't be able to turn them without the knobs.
