In theory you could be summonsed with "using a motor vehicle and failing to display a valid tax disc". In practise, a quick check by the police with DVLA will show that your vehicle is taxed and therefore very unlikely. Contrary to popular belief. The summons, if ever issued would be for "failing to display a valid tax disc" and not for driving without a valid tax disc.

Yes.you can.Why did you leave it so late? Tax runs out at the end of a month and today is the 13th. You should have applied to Swansea about the 25th or 26 th June to get your disc back in time. There is no 14 days of grace as some people think there are. If time was so short you should have taken the renewal form .and the papers ,plus the fee to a post office where you could have got the disc straight away. Is is your own fault for being so lax and lazy. Drive if you want, but you can be in trouble.

The police can check if the car is taxed immediately so you can't be done for not having tax. You can be done for not displaying a valid tax disc, but it is a very sad cop who would enforce this. The penalty for not displaying is about £20, so I would not lose too much sleep over it.

You can yes. The offence is failure to DISPLAY a valid tax disc on the vehicle. DVLA advise you apply for your tax disc at least 5 working days before expiry of the current one to avoid this very situation.

Yes, because you won't be displaying a current tax disc. I'd email the DVLA and find out what's happened to it. They'll be able to check with the P.O if it's got lost in the post. It's probably late because of these annoying Postal strikes.
