Basically, it means that whenever Mohammed changed his mind he simply said that his new mindset was Allah's revealed word to him and to forget what Allah had said before. Seems Allah is fallah-ble
The Quran itself lays out the principle of abrogation:
2:106. Whatever a Verse (revelation) do We {Allah} abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring a better one or similar to it. Know you not that Allah is able to do all things?

cazouga: Sorry, but you are entirely wrong on every point and seem to be a very weak scholar of the koran.

Conveniant how religious laws and beliefs can be changed and manipulated in order to comply with the views of humans. What people fail to realize is that the laws of the universe never change and will always remain constant. Everyone believes that their interpretation or way of believing is the right way for everyone else. The truth lies in realizing that since we are all individuals how we arrive to enlightenment or salvation is unique to each individual. Truth remains the same but how we reach truth is an individual and unique experience. If everyone on the face of this planet could understand this concept there would be an end to the bickering between religions and a consensus that one religion or way of thought cannot fit the spiritual needs of all. All religions seem to agree on a few basic principles which are to love the creator, honor your parents, love your neighbor, do not steal, do not kill, etc. Based on our life experiences, cultural mores, and personal spiritual values, how we perceive and understand these truths are unique. Maybe, christianity isn't for me but budhism is. It could even be islam. The point is that I follow my heart until I find the path that is right for myself so that I will have spiritual enlightment to lead a full, enriching life that is beneficial to humanity.

once again religion has struck a weak mind. It is good to believe in something but start with yourself. You probably dont need anyone telling you what to do or directing you every step of the way.

Most religious leaders use some kind of an escape clause for when their own word becomes inconvenient for them. Just one more reason to avoid ALL organized religions...

"We bring a better one or similar to it. " which means either add things to it to make it easier for you to follow or similar to it. God didn't change, it's either add to it or bring similar to it.
and if you still in doubt. then God words collected in the "Quran" and Muhammad(P) words collected in a book called "Hadith". now if you compare the words of the Quran with the words of the Hadith it's not the same person. then who did bring the Quran?

Why single out Islam?
The OT god is constantly changing his mind. So is the NT version.
Christians just class it under apologetics (Spinning the words so that contradictory phrases can seem to agree. Usually under a convoluted set of conditions.)

He it is who has sent down to thee the Book; in it there are verses that are firm and decisive in meaning - they are the basis of the Book - and there are others that are susceptible of different interpretations. But those in whose hearts is perversity pursue such thereof as are susceptible of different interpretations, seeking to cause discord and seeking wrong interpretations of it. And none knows its right interpretation except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge; they say, 'We believe in it; the whole is from our Lord.' - And none take heed except those gifted with understanding -
