The Bible, if you look inside, is usually put there by the "Gideons." I want to take one then call the front desk and explain my Bible's not in my room.
I just want to see what the #@$) a Gideon looks like.

It is true Gideons put the bibles in the rooms, and they do that so they can get the Word of God out there to people. They hand them out free everywhere that they are allowed. They are paid for by the Gideons. If you deem it necessary to take the bible it does not turn into a pillar of salt.

It only borders on stealing. The Bibles are there to inspire people. If someone started reading and was so desperate to go on that they couldn't put it down and had to read it, that is the reason it is there. There is no expectation that the reader would be have sufficient knowledge to find the right version later, so getting another copy in a bookstore is not a perfect solution.
On the other hand, if you have to smuggle it out, you are stealing. If you think you are stealing, you are. You could be so bold as to ask permission to take it.

No that is not true. The Gideons place a Bible in hotel rooms free so that people who want to read God's Word will read it.
Take it and read it every day. That is the purpose for the Bible being in hotel rooms.

i presumed it particularly is why the Gideon's positioned them there.... while i grow to be in school I have been given given a pocket New testomony by the Gideon business enterprise and that i'm confident they suggested they do no longer ideas if people take the bibles from lodges. in spite of this, their version of the bible is incredibly tame. The King James version is the real "hearth and brimstone" one.

That Bible is placed in the hotel room for anyone traveling to read and to hopefully come to Christ; it is not meant to be removed from the room, even thought it frequently is. Taking it is as much a sin as taking the phone book is.
The Gideons sell the bible on their website, but they provide free bibles to military personnel and people in Hospitals. if you find the word in it inspiring, you are meant to seek your own in lawful, sin-free employment.

If you steal it is wrong and forget the pillar of salt idea.
If you steal the Bible, then the hotel could charge you for it.

I do not know why you would want the damn thing, but if you do, take it. It cost the hotel nothing, they come in big boxes, free. What does cost the hotel are the towels which good Christians are forever taking home as souvenirs.

You won't be turned into a pillar of salt, and you probably won't even be prosecuted -- but it would still be stealing. Better to go buy your own copy.

This is the Gideon ministry ~ to give away Bibles to everyone who wants one. They are placed in those drawers for that reason.
