Hello,
We have an one year old chihuahua. He is spayed and very sweet towards to humans. His personality is more timid in general. We have had him since two month old.

He is a good boy besides he is very afraid of other dogs. Any dogs, any sizes even his own kind. All he wants to do is running as far as he can. To some dogs, his behavior causes them want to chase him more. We always keep him on the leash when walking outside to prevent accidents.
Can someone tell me how to teach my dog to social with others?

We are planning to go away for a short while at the end of this year and planning to put him to the care center. Really worried about his behavior to get along with others.

Please help
Thank you!

You need to start by finding a very friendly dog. One that you can trust not to bite or be mean. Hold your dog in your arms and put the other dog close to him. This way he can't get away. But if he starts to get out of hand pull away. Try doing this several times so he learns that the other animals aren't going to be mean and that you are right there with him.

Since Chihuahuas are so little they feel scared. Just think if you were that small, everything around you would be gigantic. My Chihuahua loves other dogs, doesn't matter what size or kind. Dogs have personalities too so maybe he is just not the friendly type.

Good luck and I hope your puppy can overcome this problem~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``

Do you live in an area that has doggie classes that teach socialization skills. Sounds like your little guy needs socialized really bad. Do you take him to Petsmart or places like that where dogs are welcome. Take him to a doggy park and get him around other dogs, very slowly of course. Hope he can get over this, and good luck.

dogs have personalities just like people do. my chihuahua loves me to death but will snap at other dogs and most other people. my yorkie loves other dogs and other people as long as they throw her ball for her. some dogs are just 'one-dog dogs' and dont want to be around other animals.
