You probably just brought her out of a deep sleep into a light one. I've had 6 cats over the years and when they first come onto my lap they purr loudly while I stroke them. The purring gets softer and softer as they get more deeply asleep and stops when they are truly relaxed and sleeping deeply. They generally have to trust you a lot to get that relaxed.

It really depends. She could be sleeping, but a lot of cats also pur when they are awake.

Mine purrs as he's falling asleep. I consistently recognize on an identical time as hes thoroughly asleep with the aid of certainty he stops purring. Then on an identical time as he starts off noisily snoring, i recognize that I easily have a exceeded out cat on my palms! Haha!

No, actually, when a cat is sleeping, it rarely purrs, but it is possible if it is in a very good sleepy mood. Cats also purr when you pet them, or maybe if their just happy, sometimes, when I cuddle with my cat, without petting her, she purrs, so, I guess it varies....

Nope. Does a person snoring or chewing or moaning mean they are awake? Not necessarily. Sleeping does not have to mean quiet.
