I've been really considering joining the Airforce for a very long time.(SERE program) to be exact. But i've been really thinking about the Marine Corps lately. Everyone i talk to is telling my to join the airforce, even my brother who is a Marine. He says he wouldnt change being one ever, but he doesnt want me to join because of the war. I understand that if i join the Marines that i "Will" go to Iraq. Its that I'm scared of dieing, because i'm not, its just leaving my family and friends behind if i die, is what bothers me. Even knowing this, still, everytime i think about the Marines i think about, Honor,Pride, and being able to belong to such a great thing as the Marine Corps, Sure the comercials are to make you want to join, but everytime i see anything that has to do with the Marines, I get a feeling deep inside, its really weird. Almost like something is telling me to join, I just think about how good it would feel knowing that I'm a Marine. Please leave comments..Thanks, Matt

I served in the USN.Have never regretted the experience. All branches of the military will teach you about honor, commitment, self sacrifice, etc.Technical skills are a plus.As an employer,I know that most any veteran I hire, will have a good background to build upon.As for the Marine Corp.,There are no ex-marines,only former Marines. All Marines I've known are probably the finest, most honorable group of people I've ever had the pleasure to associate with.Good luck on your decision.

As a retired Air Force person, I can tell you that most, if not all of the career paths in the Air Force can transition to civilian life. Even if you made the military a career, that will be at most 30 years. After that point, it would be nice to know that what you did for the past 30 years or whatever, was able to be put to good use in the civilian world. On the other hand being a Marine is an honorable position. Yet, look around you. There isn't too many civilian positions that call for a combat trained infantryman. There just isn't a clear transition. Sure you could become a cop, or something like that, but most police departments won't hire someone who is 50 years old to start. And, that's about how old you'd be if you stayed in for 30 years. What ever you decide, Air Force, Marines or any of the other branches of the service, just serve with pride.

Matt...If you really want to be a Marine then by all means do it!
I personally spent 4 years in the USAF and 3 months later joined the Marines and spent 26 years in the most honorable military force in the world!
There is nothing that I can imagine that has as much pride and honor as being a Marine. Even though I spent 34 months in Vietnam and several other wars, I would do it all over again!
The feeling of brotherhood involved with being a Marine is something that is almost impossible to explain to an outsider.
Do what your heart tells you...be a Marine, you will not regret your decision!

The skills that you may learn in the Air Force will help you for the rest of your life. As you grow older the need to be considered a hero lessens. The difference between the quality of life in the Air Force is dramatically better than the Marines. Listen to your brother, join the Air Force.

Matt, every Marine I've met has that deep feeling as a part of their everyday life, well after they've left the corps.
And your brother will forever harass you about being a ChairForce zoomie, even if he does recommend you now to join the comfortable life.

Hello Matt,
Joint the Force at your own interest and what's you think is right. Be proud of yourself who will serve the country as a Marine. Not every soldier die in war. Your family will be proud of you in joining what ever Military Force.

Go with what feels right. This is a decision that will stay with you and guide you in the way you live your life....the decisions you make...your moral character.
It seems if you join the Air Force, you will always wonder about being a Marine.

Hey, Dude,
Why don't you be a Marine and do more than your bro has done. I wonder how that will make him feel.
Oh, and stop being a BIG BABY.
Good Luck

I think if you really want to do that you should. I am retired Army and enjoyed every minute (OK not every minute, but most of my time) in the service. If you want to feel pride and a sense of accomplishment nearly every day, you can't find a better occupation..
