"Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another."

I grew up in a Christian home, and I'm very well versed in the bible. I grew up believing so many things were evil and that if you weren't a "christian" you were going to burn in hell. I guess you could say I had the almost cultish "fire and brimstone" upbringing. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for it, and it is what has made me who I am today, but I think it deeply scarred me for a while. It took me coming into myself to see spiritually for what it truly is. It's only been within the last 6 months that I'm even able to answer a question like this.
I do 100% consider myself a Christian, and I have asked the Lord Jesus Christ to be my savior. But a lot of people would be surprised to hear that I attend a Catholic church. Do I consider myself a Catholic? Well, no, but it is where I am able to freely worship and not feel forced into a specific "style". I've been to some christian churches that make you believe that if you haven't fallen on the floor shaking, you haven't truly experienced God's power. I experience God's power every day of my life. So to finally answer your question:
To be a true Christian, all it takes is to know who you are in Christ, be it at a mormon church, a catholic church, a baptist church, your own living room, or wherever you feel most connected to him. You are the only one who has to justify your relationship with God. If you can stand up and say "He is my God" and have proof in your daily walk, then you are a true Christian.

I feel you have to Love and Live your life according to the Gospel of Christ. Faith without work is dead : I strongly believe that if you don't share what you love and why you follow Jehovah God, you are like everyone else talking the talk and not walking the walk.

Christians ( followers of Christ) follow Gods 10 Commandments, They spend time studying & praying ..getting to know the Lord & understanding his grace they show the love of Christ by helping their fellow man- (not just your friends & family) whatever it takes- from clothing , food, or if their need is money- give it to them.. Jesus commissioned his followers to spread the Good News- so we must also tell others of his love & salvation-- (this should never be done in a pushy way-- but in a loving way)
Just my point of view-

True Christians must follow in Christs footsteps very closely. That means even if being killed for his name sake. Many religions won't do this or teach it. This love for God and the Christ must be in a person's heart. Only Jehovah God knows a persons heart condition.
A Christian will not compromise God's standards for the good of himself. Jehovah God comes first in a true Christians life.

Those that believe in the Lord Jesus Christ are saved.
What makes a person a Christian is that, and a Christian will continue to trust God for anything that He said.
I have a request for you: Read Acts 15 and see what Peter said, then look how James responded.

Belief and faith in Jesus Christ. To want to follow His teachings and apply them to your life. To seek spiritual guidance by surrendering your life to the will of God.
We must be aware that Christians are of the human race, and that not one of us is perfect. Each christian must take a journey with Jesus, and its a long learning process. To claim to be christian doesn't always mean that a person will have the values and morals expected of Christians, because each one will be in the learning process until the day they go to meet Jesus.

First you have to confess that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save you from your sins...accept Him as your personal Savior. Repent and ask for forgiveness for your sins.
It really is that simple.
To be a Christian you should try to turn away from sin and live a life so that you can be an example to others. We do fall short many times because we are all sinners but the Great news is that we can ask for forgiveness.

1. Have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their lives.
2. Realize that it isn't about a religion, it's about a relationship.
3. Live a life worthy of the calling which they have recieved.
4. Have faith, for without faith it is impossible to please God.
5. Love...Love themselves, Love others, and Love God.
I could list more detail but this is my general opinion.

Becoming a Christian is easy:
You believe with all of your heart and soul that Jesus is Lord and Savior. You confess your sins to Him and you ask Him to come into your heart.
Living a Christian life is much more difficult.
Everytime I forgive, love, reserve judgement, give from the heart, and show kindness, I'm being a good Christian.
The other 95% of the time, I'm just being human!
