** First i know laser is the ONLY way to REMOVE a tattoo, so dont leave that as a answer and only answer if you have tried it yourself please!! **
I have a tattoo that is pretty small and just a black outline. I want to FADE IT JUST ENOUGH TO GET A COVER UP... i have seen all the creams and have read about them... and the reviews are about half and half... I know that they will not remove the tat, remember, i just want it to fade for a cover up!!!!!!
Also, i have read about getting something tattooed in the skin over the ink to help it break up..?? How well does this work??
Thanks!

I have decided what i want for the cover up... i want a songbird... color would be good but it doesnt have to be in color... the tattoo is on my lower stomach where it V's down... currently i have a star outline on one side and a girl skull and crossbones on the other... i want the songbirds to go over them and the song birds would be facing each other..
thanks!!

you don't need to fade a tattoo to get a coverup. i have had a few coverups and have never had to fade one before. i actually asked my artist about it and he said he would prefer i NOT fade my tattoo before covering it up. he didn't know what it would do to my skin and it may mess up the coverup potential. the best thing is to ask the artist before you do anything but a talented artist should be able to work with you.

I haven't heard about fading it just enough for a coverup, but considering how many visits it's supposed to take to fade with laser you could probably just do half or less and get the same effect. It sounds like you don't want to try laser, so...

Some of the artists at the shop I go to were talking about the cremes and such one of the times I was there. None of them had anything good to say about them even from the point of view of partial fading; although I get the idea they can fade it's fairly uneven? A few even commented on how some of them (sorry, no brands referenced) can actually scar your skin.

They're good artists, but without specific references take it with a grain of salt.

As I understand it, some artists also use white ink to prep the area, which would also be cheaper if money is an issue plus what you're probably referencing. Best of luck to you.

Have you decided what for the cover up? Have you talked to an artist? Will the cover have color? Have had a few covers and sometimes what your using to cover it doesn't matter. The only thing I have noticed in 21 years of having tattoos is that my first one faded due to sun exposure so the newer ones I have, I keep sunscreen on them. It took about 4 or 5 years for that first one to fade and I had it gone over to brighten it up.

if your tattoo now is just an outline it should be fine being covered up.. just get color on the one you will be getting... the tattoo artist will also let you know if it is ok .. just contact an artist in your area. and talk to them.. they may have you go in so they can look over the tattoo you have now so they can figure out how large the cover up needs to be

I'm really glad to hear that you've stopped - you probably have 2 weeks before they fade enough to wear short sleeves.... I'm really glad to hear that you have stopped! keep it up - even a stranger is happy for you - imagine the people that love you! good luck ♥
