I would really reccomend a Pug. Everyone i know with a pug has said they have a great temperment. Not to mention they are adorable. We have had ours for 8 years and he has been great. My sister has a 3year old and he has NEVER come close to snapping or grownling at her. He lets her pet him and carry him but when he gets sick of it, he just avoids her. They are also very laid back and are small so they are easy to care for.

everyone says a golden retriver.. but personally u have a 2 year old and taking care of a dog as a puppy is just as hard as taking care of a baby.. wait until your child is like 4 and get a dog ... also it is very hard since ur child needs a lot of attention at this age and you will not give ur dog as much attention and that can cause jealousy issues and u really do not want a dog jealous of a child it is very unsafe... golden ret. are known not to be jealous and are know to helping u out though... for example my friend had a ret. that was 3 years old and he got pregnet .. when the baby was born.. the dog would sleep and watch the baby.. one night the baby woke up crying and the dog ran to wake up my friend .. and then they found out the baby had a fever... the dog did like everything to get her out of bed.. pretty cool how dogs are so smart

Well you should go to your local adoption center and check out the dogs. With a two year old its not very good to have a puppy or small dogs just because little kids tend to pich under the stomach. Labs, german shepards and mostly all bigger dogs are good getting a two year old or older is good for having a younger child in the house

That really depends on what your ready for. What kind of energy level you can handle, what type of training and grooming are you prepared for?
I personally would stay away from dogs under 40lbs or over 80lbs as 2yo kids are generally speaking very rough and tumble and small dogs do not appreciate that and bigger dogs tend to be very clumsy and boisterous.
I would also steer clear of any of the herding breed as they have a tendency to be very nippy and will herd the kids. They don't have the kind of bite inhibition that you want when you have small kids around, they're not above "correcting" a child for perceived bad behavior.

At this point, I would recommend a stuffed toy dog for your family.
Right now you are raising a child of your own - with all the joys and stresses that goes with it. And as expensive as it was raising my child 20 years ago, I can only IMAGINE what it is today.
And sad to say, that toddlers will, unknowingly of course, torment even the most even tempered and gentle of dogs to the point of snapping. That's setting the dog up for failure.
Wait until your toddler is of school age before getting a dog.
Then go to the shelter and look for a medium-sized adult mixed-breed who will love you and your child for the rest of its life.
Forget that rubbish about child/puppies growing up together - hahaha! Dogs grow faster than children anyway. So a medium-sized adult will pose no surprises as to size, temperament, hair length etc. Also, adults are usually potty-trained, don't chew as much, often come spayed/neutered, with shots up to date, etc. Not all shelters can provide all these services - but many offer at least discounts.
But for the time being, you have too much to do raising your own "people puppy" to take on the added duties of caring for a dog. Wait a couple of years.

Mutts all the way. Go to a shelter, and browse through their dogs... You can usually play with them a little bit to get a sense of their personality... Bring your child and let them check each other out! I have a three-year-old sister who has grown up with a shelter mutt and they get along swimmingly! I would advise not getting a very young pup though, they can be TOO playful... Get a dog that is a year old at least so that it has calmed down at least a little...
Best of luck!

Golden Retriever. Hands down the best dog to have with kids. They are loving, calm, and very even tempered. Labs are also good, but nothing beats a Golden.

The way that my husband picked out our dog is that he went into the shelter and found the hyperist puppy that was thier and that is the dog that we ended up with. Shelby is a terrier mix. She is the sweetist most even tempered dog we have ever had. All dogs can be good with children. The only reason that a dog turns bad is if it is not treated with respect.
