My brothers friend got a girl pregnant during a one-night-stand. (We have told him how stupid he was for not being more careful) Anyway as far as he knows the baby is his (he'll have a paternity test when it's born) The problem is though he knows this girl is doing drugs which is obviously harming the baby.

Does he have any legal rights to prevent her from doing this?

Get child protection services on her right away. Tell them about the drugs and have them do a drug test. If it comes back positive, then they will handle it from there. Some states will give the mother prison time for this. They have changed the laws so much, they are hard to keep track of now. Everyone is finally looking out for unborn fetuses. If the drug test does come back positive, then he will likely have custody of the baby when he/she is born.

The best thing he can do is hire a lawyer and force an Amniocentesis now to prove paternity, then once that is established he can request through the courts for random drug test. This is going to be costly and truthfully not easy but if it's important he'll get on top of this first thing Monday.

If anybody finds out about this( for example; He called Child Protection, or Social Services.) They can take the baby away when he/she's born. Maybe your friend can threaten this, or call Social Services and ask his question there.
