Dogs are only like that because they were raised in a manner that teaches them to do that. Just like people, if you make them angry, they're going to retaliate sooner or later. I'm sure there are very nice pit bulls out there, they've just been given the short end of the stick.

This is not a hoax. It has been all over the news the past few days. The 2 year old boy had to have reconstructive surgery.
My gut feeling tells me there is more to this story though. Why was this little boy naked? And where were the parents when it first started happening? It just seems almost impossible to me and quite disturbing. I pray that I am wrong.

Police investigate bizarre dog attack claim

By April Amadon
LOCKPORT UNION-SUN AND JOURNAL (LOCKPORT, N.Y.)

LOCKPORT, N.Y. — Police are trying to determine whether a pit bull sexually assaulted a 2-year-old boy, and why.

Lockport Police Detective Capt. Larry Eggert said they are interviewing witnesses and meeting with dog behavioral experts to try and figure out what motivated the dog.

The boy's mother told police the dog, a 2-year-old pit bull named Bear, sodomized the boy while the mother was in another room.

“She left the baby alone for a short period of time,” Eggert said. “She heard a scream, she ran in the room and saw the dog and the boy.”

Eggert said the toddler had removed his own soiled diaper and asked to be changed just before the attack. His mother sent him into the living room to get a new diaper, Eggert said.

The boy was alone with the dog for only a brief time, Eggert said.

When the mother heard the boy scream, she told police she went into the living room and found the dog had mounted the child, Eggert said. The mother told police she began yelling at the dog and spooked it. The dog dragged the boy out onto the porch, where neighbors saw what was happening, he said.

“They heard the mother screaming,” Eggert said. “Together they were able to disentangle the dog and the boy.”

A passerby who helped rescue the boy said he heard the woman screaming and saw the dog's mouth holding the child's leg and stomach.

The toddler was taken to Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, where he remained after having surgery Sunday night.

Niagara County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Executive Director Al Chille said the dog would remain there pending the police investigation.

The pit bull had been with the family two years and had no history of aggression, Eggert said.

A DNA sample was taken from the dog to compare with DNA taken from the boy to ensure the attack actually did take place as reported, he said.

Eggert said investigators plan to sit down with the Niagara County District Attorney’s office to determine if any charges will be filed.

“It’s not a pleasant case to have to work with,” Eggert said. “It’s almost unbelievable.”

Chille said he’s fielded dozens of calls about the dog, many from other states, and the overwhelming sentiment has been in favor of the dog.

“It’s been, ‘Save the dog, investigate the family,‘ ” Chille said.

Eggert said the family has been “very open, very cooperative” with police.

Heard it on the Adam Corolla show this morning - they checked the story, they said, and it's true.

I haven't checked it out for myself yet. All I can think of is WTH the mother left a naked kid for mid- diaper change, and what kind of idiot leaves that kind of dog alone with a child. Doesn't make sense.

Of course, not ALL pitbulls are dangerous but it HAS been proven that they are a very aggressive species of dog. I don't care how it is trained or how it is treated at home the fact is they are very temperamental and can turn on you at any time.

When's the last time you saw an attack by a Golden Retriever for crissake. I'm not lumping them all together, but to say they're just the same as other dogs is downright incorrect.

I absolutely HATE that people keep saying that pit bulls are bad dogs. They are not! I have 2 full grown and 1 puppy and they are sweet hearts. They are protective yes, but they obey when I tell them to stand down. I am 38 weeks pregnant and I know they will be great dogs with my baby because I've raised them to be good dogs and not by beating them just being stern and strict. There is no such thing as a bad dog or a bad breed, but there is such a thing as a bad owner who doesn't know how to treat a dog. Pits **and every other breed** will turn bad with bad training and bad handling.

As for the little boy- I feel bad for him and his family.

pit bulls are NOT viscious dogs!!! you dont know the story behind how he was treated and most likely he was abused and neglected and chained in the back yard which would be the idiot owners fault.

obviously that specific dog was violent and needs to be dealt with in a responsible way but that doesnt in any way mean that all pitbulls are vicious!!! and believe me they're NOT!!!

i bet you didnt hear about the poodle that randomly attacked a three year old girl to the point where the girl passed out... and why not? because society doesnt veiw poodles as violent dogs so they choose not to spend too much time on the story.

i currently have 2 pits and they are the most loving, loyal, friendly animals that i have ever had and i had them behavior tested and guess wat! they passed and the man said that they where the friendliest and least threatning dogs he ever tested... all breeds included!

pitbulls are for responsible owners who are going to take the time to properly train and love them. they are full of personality and they take time and maturity to know how to handle them.

i obviously feel terrible for that little kid and no one should be attaked like that. i wish him and his family well and think the man who owned the pit should be punished and the dog should be dealt with but pit bulls are the best kind of dog to have in my opinion!

I feel there is really more to the story..... any dog can be vicious it is all in how you train them. I think this dog in particular should be shot!

Its how the dogs are raised not the dog itself. I have a pitbull myself. Hes a big baby. I also have a 15 month old and another one coming in a month and he absolutly LOVES my daughter. He doesn't leave her side. I hear stories about little furball dogs attacking kids so again its all in how you raise them to be.

That sounds like an urban myth. The child would have been wearing a diaper and clothes. However, pit bulls should be outlawed.
