They are not going to give you money for marrying a Korean national.... The only money you will get for marrying them would be the money everyone else gets for being married... Most of the people that go there that are married, have to keep their spouses in the states...
So you would have an advantage of having your wife there with you, but there is a HUGE disadvantage...... Just becuase she would marry you, doesnt automatically make her a US citizen.... She still has to go through the whole process that everyone else goes through.... I was stationed in Korea back on 2000-2001 (Alot of fun, great place), and knew a guy who married a national.. He had been there for 3 years waiting for her paperwork to go through so they can both go to the states together....
So if you want to go to Korea just to marry a Korean drinky-girl because you heard some BS about extra money, then go right ahead.. But be prepared to stay there for MUCH longer than the standard 1 year tour...
And besides, the Filipinas are hotter.....

Amazing,
1. By the time you are old enough we may not have troops in Korea.
2. If you are an Officer the Military will really give you a hard time marrying a foriegn national. They will pull your clearance and wreck your promotions.
3. When you get back to the states she can get a lawyer, divorce you and take whatever you have. Then if she's pregnant you can pay for the next 18 years.
Korea is no longer a backwater country, in many places it is more expensive than here. Thier educational system is the best in the world and they are a year ahead of us for electronic gadgets. You really need to think that one through

You could make 3-5 years as what you are describing is a crime. Fraudulent marriage, illegal entry into this country, promoting prostitution (what would you call it), conduct unbecoming an officer (I shudder at that concept), general misconduct. Yourchoice; military prison or civilian prison. I agree that Korean women are very desirable but if that is your only reason for joining the army forget it. You don't really know where you will be stationed. You want to marry a camel?

Yeah a drinky girl......what you fail to realize is you will be paying for her whole family to come over to US if she is truly Korean (not Russian or from the Philipines). She might stay with you or maybe she will just stay long enough to get the whole family to the states. I have seen guys caught up in this hussle but MOST of the time they end up paying to either buy out a girls contract or marrying a regular local national who takes you to the cleaners. Some girls are good but be careful.
Do us all a favor and dont make this mistake....I would hate to be the Soldier/supervisor who has to deal with your issues. It takes time away from all the lower enlisted soldiers with legit problems. Be a good officer and set the example. By the way...Korea is NOT a good FIRST duty station especially with that type of mentality.

Fascinating concept. Some poor Korean girl who is so desperate to better her lot in life that she'd marry basically any foreigner who'd say yes has the wherewithal to save several thousand dollars to pay him to do the deed? No, you have it backward (and out of date as well).
It used to be common for GIs to fall for bar girls back before the Korean economy took off. These guys would then find that they needed to pay off her massive debts to the bar owners, landlords and assorted other vultures who had their hooks in her before she could get out. Then there were the bribes, oops, gifts to government officials to ensure her paperwork wouldn't get misplaced somewhere. No, it was the Americans who'd end up paying thousands to bring their lovely brides out of the ROK.
These days its fairly uncommon to find Korean girls in that life. It's no longer the dirt poor third world country it once was. Most of the "entertainers/hostesses/prostitutes" in the bars are now imported from former Soviet states or less well-off Asian nations.
In any event, marrying your first lay on your first short tour is the sort of foolishness the military tolerates in the junior enlisted ranks but it's poison to an officer's career.

Man are you stupid. You have to get permission to marry a korean national. What you heard is a rumor. If you do that you end up at Camp Red Cloud and be in jail. After you marry still have to process papers to take her out of country. To the USA. Could lkake 1-2 years.
I do want to say one thing about South Korea---best kept secret in the military for assignments overseas. Volunteer and go... Have a good time--I did...

You don't have to be in the army to do that, but it does help to know people. As far as marrying them and bringing them back you are wrong, you marry them but they become a citizen and come back with their original husband. A year will pass and you will get a divorce, it is in the contract; if you want the other half of the money in question. All that is accomplished is you are unknowingly granting citizenship to what might even be a man. Marrying one person for money could be the straw that broke America's back! You can find women to marry and bring back but the avenue you speak of is a racket, you'll be lucky to get laid in the process! You must lack basic brain function to even consider joining the army, if you think they will send you anywhere that a war is not going on you are most definitely mistaken! They will make promises that they have no intention of keeping just to get you to sign up, if you fall for it too bad so sad, your in for the duration, the only way out is prison, which is where I would be if the government tried to make me go fight any war besides one in my street, have a nice day, remember your days are numbered, anything you do to risk shortening them is a crime against humanity, not just yourself! Where there is war there is cold blooded murder, enjoy!

I was in the U.S. Army for 4 years. I did 2 tours to South Korea. One in 1991 and one in 1995. The only military guys who get with the Korean girls are the guys who can't get anyone else. Most of the Korean girls just want to come to the states and they will do whatever it takes to get over here. Most of them are nasty and use the military guys. They love the military guys on payday and ignore them the rest of the time. Don't make the mistake of marrying one and bringing her to the states. She will stay with you as long as it takes and then divorce you and leave you with the kids, making you a single father. I've seen it happen many times.

You mean to tell me that you would Marry a woman, just because che can give you 3-5 thousand dollars?
Something about that is just...wrong.
You realize though if you did marry this woman, and she did give you some money, right away, she's entitled to half your stuff. You better treat her well becaseu once she gets to the states and learns some things, she'll take you to the cleaners.
You sure you really want to do that?

What you're talking about (marrying a foreigner so she/he can become a U.S. citizen) is a felony. Then kiss your Army career goodbye after you get out of the stockade.
You're not the sharpest tool in the shed, are you.
Some of our soldiers DO marry women they meet when they are stationed overseas. But the women don't pay them to. They do it because they love their man.
Friend of mine got married in 1961 to a lovely Japanese lady and were married 44 years until she passed away.
