a couple years ago i got laptop with xp. at this time it is quite bloated and extremely slow. it is excrutiatingly slow to start up and takes ages to start up programs, or switch between windows, or anything really.

the basic things u do i have done. but i realy need speed on it, however i dont have time to methodically do a load of stuf so whats the best program to clean up and speed up computer back to when it was new, and remove the 'junkware' and etc. etc.

tbh ive done almost everything here. this goes especially to the first guy saying 'you alreayd have a program its called defragmentator'.

ive defragged, ive done spyware scans and adware, ive removed all the programs i can remove, theres plenty of space, ive done disk cleanup, ive disbled the startup stuff in msconfig,

all i havent done is some of the stuff bsod said, which i will do know. what will i do after that doesn't work? i cannot format and reinstall for certain reasons which are not relevent here.

Several things make a computer run slow over time.

Firstly the registry gets filled up with all sorts of junk. Download this free program and it may help:
http://www.ccleaner.com/
I say "may help" because I run CCleaner and two other commercial registry programs every week to keep my machine clean. Each program finds different faults.

Have a look at the number of icons you have on the bottom right. Six or seven should be max. If you have more, you need to fix your Startup options, but that job isn't for the feint hearted.

Defrag your hard disk. Make sure you switch off your antivirus software before doing so.

Run only one antivirus program. AVG (free) is the only one you should bother with.

Install and run either Spybot or Adaware or both.

CCleaner will deal with all your temp files, so you don't have to clean them out unless you decide not to install the program.

Your computer is like your car, neglect it and it will come back at you with a vengence. Of course you have time to do things methodically, if you don't you will be waiting for ages for things to happen. Which is faster? Two hours housekeeping, or months of waiting?

AQnother alternative is to take your computer to a software specialist every twelve months.

Sorry, I don't think there is any such program, but still I think you can try disk clean up from by right clicking your hard disk from that proparties and from that disk clean up, also open internet explorer and from tools>>internet options>>delete cookies>>delete files. Also if possible remove unwanted programs you have installed. One more thing from your task bar or from the below right corner see the programs loaded on that and try to close as much as you can. If all these does not work I think take the backup of your system and format the same with the help of a expert.

Use adaware and spybot to get rid of spyware- they are both free programs you can download. Remove any unnecessary programs under add/remove programs on the control panel. Type in "msconfig" into the "run" function, then you can choose which programs you want to run on startup. Finally, you can defragment your hard drive under system tools.

Back up your data, format the drive, and reinstall Windows.

All the rest will only do part of the job.

try defragmenting with diskkeeper. try process explorer to view opened programs and close those you don't use. maybe your comp will work faster.
