Can they chew through cables lie the TV cable? My kittenschew most things they come into contact with and I'm worried that one day the'll get an electric shock from the TV cable. What can be done to stop this?

Yes kittens can chew through any wires so get a spray bottle filled with water and every time she starts chewing anything other than a toy that belongs to her, spray her. Tell her in a quiet but firm voice 'No' as you do it. It also works for scratching, climbing and any other inappropriate behaviour problems. A cable tidy will help but it won't cure her, so make sure she has something else to chew on. Water is a gentle deterrent so PLEASE don't punish her or shout at her as all that will do is make her distrust you.Don't forget she's a baby and all baby animals including humans learn about the world this way, and they all have teething problems.
Cats are luckily very quick learners.

God yes - my cat is 7 now, and every now and again when she thinks I'm not looking she has a bit of a chew! She's gone through several phone charger cables, the satellite cable, the landline cable, table lamp cables, cables at the back of the TV - you name it!

Its taken me seven years, and even now I can’t say she is completely cured! She just seems to have a compulsion to do it. My only advice is either to tell them off each time you catch them doing it, or buy the plastic tubing from hardware shops and put all the cables in the house inside them. I think they will grow out of it in time, but it won’t be a quick process!

They wont get much of a shock from TV cable as it is only a very low voltage signal wire. extension cords are more likely something that will hurt them. but to answer your question, yes, a persistant cat or kitten can get through most household cords and cables with enough time. best bet is to tuck them away as best as possible and try to eliminate any and all extension cords anyway as they are responsible for more fires than faulty wiring and faulty devices combined. this is why the electrical code states that a receptacle must be installed within every 12 feet along a wall line and every 2 feet in the kitchen, this is new code and doesnt apply to older houses. if you have the means have a qualified electrician properly install wall outlets to avoid extention cord use. if you are going to work or to bed at night, unplug any extension cords you can from the wall, that way if kitty decides to chew. nothing will happen. but always inspect cords prior to re-pluging them in.

Yes kittens can chew through cables. The best prevention is to get cable covers at an office supply store they go over the cable and affix to the floor so it's like it's just another part of the floor and she will be less likely to bother it.

The first thing to say is that yes they can chew through any cable. I have first hand at this my kitten chewed straight through a cable he was ok as the able wasn't plugged in at the time so i and the cat was lucky.
I tried the cable tidies that you can buy but my cat fully enjoyed playing with it so i didn't trust it. What i have is thin rigid plastic tubing (like the stuff that is used in plumbing.) i have treaded the cables through it and it seems to have wrked really well

I don't know, but there's a hilarious scene from Christmas Vacation about that.

I don't believe the cable line carries electricity (like the kind from the cable company). Phone cables do and obviously electrical cables do. So chances are if it's the cable cable kind, they wouldn't get a shock from that anyway.

There is a spray at Petsmart that should repulse your cat from further chewing; spray on the wires. You might also just try placing a few moth balls near the wires, or Tabasco (sprinkle on cotton balls and place by the wires). Another idea is to wrap the wires with double sided duck tape (sticky part on both sides). Then, perhaps buy just some small, plastic tubing for a 'toy'; that way he can still satisfy his chewing urge. (There are also cord 'organizers' and tubing which you can cover your cords with, but these are pricey for doing a whole household.)

Yes they can chew all the way through. Since not all cords can be covered use the no bite finger nail polish. If that does not stop your kitten take Cyan pepper and mix with hot sauce use a paint brush to coat cords lightly. Our Bitter Apple.
Good luck!

Possible; but no current in a TV cable. Electrical lines are a different issue

Cats and Kittens can chew through Wires because of their sharp teeth. You can usually teach a cat not to Chew into them or simply hide the Wires , teaching the cat has a long time effect and sometimes the Female Cats will teach its kittens to not chew into them
