There is no such thing as good wars. Some wars are necessary, but none of them are good. Nobody sane thinks that the war in Afghanistan is good either, it is just some people feel it is necessary not to have Afghanistan destabilize again just like what happened the last time a major world power withdrew too quickly. The Taliban was a problem in the 80's, and if we leave now without at least getting Bin Laden, there is a good chance that it will be a problem for us in the future. Now grant it, I think just being in Afghanistan is not enough, we have a good game plan on how to use our forces most effectively to keep us from having to come back. That is a big difference between Afghanistan and Iraq, Iraq we would specifically be destabilizing the region if we stayed, since our presence would delegitimize the Iraqi government, especially after they asked us to leave. In Afghanistan, it isn't as clear cut what is our best course of action in the region. Anyway, people elected Obama knowing full well his foreign policy concerning Iraq and Afghanistan, and honestly the alternative in McCain would have left us stuck in both countries. People are tired of war, but that shouldn't supersede our need for a rational foreign policy.

The war in Afghanistan was a joint decision by NATO largely on humanitarian grounds. The fact that America backed the Taliban against the former Russian backed Government is largely forgotten.

According to official sources George "dubya" Bush based his decision to commit US Forces to the invasion of Iraq based largely on the "evidence" supplied by Blair of hidden WMD. The WMD did not exist so attempts were made to implicate Iraq/Saddam in supporting terrorists ie. Bin Laden. The "proof" supplied is not conclusive. The new line is of course removal of an evil dictator and bringing freedom to oppressed people. The facts that Iraq has descended into civil war and more people have died since the invasion than under the US and UK backed regime of Saddam seem to be largely forgotten.

So in answer to who is responsible for the war in Iraq my vote goes to Tony Blair.

Do you all think Bush declared war by himself? Do some research and find out who else thought Iraq had WMD's. Most of congress agreed with it, both Democrats and Republicans. Bush is responsible for keeping it going for so long but not for going in the first place. If we weren't so politically correct this thing would be over. Civilian casualties are a part of war. Sorry for ya.

Iraq - Saddam Hussein
Afghanistan - Mullah Omar and the Taliban, backed by his unholy alliance friends Al Qaeda

None of the above.

The current war in Afghanistan is the responsibility of Al Qaeda and the islamic terrorists, backed by the Taliban.

The conflict in Iraq is the fault of Saddam Hussein, who refused to comply with hundreds of UN resolutions, and continued to thumb his nose at the world while slaughtering his own people and committing genocide against the Kurds.

Well, I see Iraq and Afghanistan as two separate problems. Afghanistan was housing terrorists, Iraq was merely guilty of Saddam Hussein embellishing his abilities in order to 'sound hard'.

Both lied to their respective governments, and people, in order to get into Iraq, and it's all backfiring on both the UK and the US as we have incited a number of people into hating because we've created the situation where we consider ourselves to be 'world-police'.

Who cares who is responsible, let's just stop. If the region goes up in a shambles, OK. We don't need gas, or electricity etc. Let them be and bring our people home.
We do not always have to point a finger do we?
