A peptic ulcer is a sore in the lining of your stomach or duodenum. The duodenum is the first part of your small intestine. If peptic ulcers are found in the stomach, they're called gastric ulcers. If they're found in the duodenum, they're called duodenal ulcers. You can have more than one ulcer.

Stomach ulcers affect about 4 million Americans every year.

More than 40,000 Americans have surgery because of persistent symptoms or problems from ulcers every year.

About 6,000 Americans die of stomach ulcer-related complications every year.

Ulcers can cause internal bleeding and constant pain. If you think you have this problem you need to see your doctor as soon as possible.

a stomach ulcer is an inflammation where some of the stomach lining has been damaged. a serious side effect would be to have a bleeding ulcer. this would require emergency surgery. if u feel dizzy or lightheadedness call your md asap. if u have one, i hope u are following the mds suggestions as most ulcer can be treated and healed in a few months. good luck ;)michele
