You could make Croque Monsiers. I'm also the cook for my family and I made this two days ago.

You need

4 tablespoons butter, divided
2 tablespoons flour (all-purpose)
1 cup milk
salt and pepper
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg (does not have to be exact)
2 teaspoons dijon mustard
slices of bread (2 for each sandwich you make)
3/4 lb ham, thinly sliced
2 cups shredded gruyere cheese
you can use parsely leaves, chives, or thyme leaves for garnish if you want

first melt 2 tablespoons in a small saucepot. Once melted, whisk in the flour and let it cook for one minute. Then whisk in the milk and bring it to a bubble then lower the heat. Season the sauce with a little salt and pepper, the nutmeg, and the dijon mustard. Then let the sauce cook until it thickens (this takes about 2-3 minutes, so watch the sauce closely. Whan the sauce has thickened turn off the heat.

Now spread one side of a piece of bread with the sauce you just made. Then you layer the ham on the bread any way you like. Now take another pice of bread and butter the top with some of the butter. Make sure the butter is softened. Now put this piece of bread buttered side up on top the piece of bread with the ham on it. Now put a good bit of gruyere cheese on top of the buttered side of the sandwich. Cook the sandwich in a pan for three minutes on each side (and yes, at some point the side with the cheese on it goes face down on the pan, you are supposed to do that) but watch it as you cook it, because it has a tendency to burn. When you're done you can sprinkle garnish on the side with the now-melted cheese if you like.

This may sound hard but it isn't at all. It's like making a grilled cheese sandwich with a sauce on it.

Good luck! Chefs unite!

Dijon-Tarragon Cream Chicken
INGREDIENTS

* 1 tablespoon butter
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
* salt and pepper to taste
* 1/2 cup heavy cream
* 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
* 2 teaspoons chopped fresh tarragon

DIRECTIONS

1. Melt the butter and heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season chicken with salt and pepper, and place in the skillet. Brown on both sides. Reduce heat to medium, cover, and continue cooking 15 minutes, or until chicken juices run clear. Set aside and keep warm.
2. Stir cream into the pan, scraping up brown bits. Mix in mustard and tarragon. Cook and stir 5 minutes, or until thickened. Return chicken to skillet to coat with sauce. Drizzle chicken with remaining sauce to serve.

Yea, Pasta is definitely a simple recipe. Get some ground beef, and cook that and put some sauce with it in one pot, and make the pasta in another. Then buy some pre-made garlic bread or make your own. Add a salad, and you're good to go! Have fun and good luck!

how about some quesadillas.....
take a flour tortilla and place in a fry pan sprayed with cooking spray.. put some cheese on top of the tortilla almost to the edges... then add some cut up fully cooked meat ( chicken, turkey, pork, i even use lunch meat) place another tortilla on top and cook till bottom is lightly browned.. flip with a big spatula.. brown other side
serve with salsa, sour cream, or whatever else you like :)

Chicken Catciatori. Cut up a pound of chicken, (no bones) throw it into a crock pot or large skillet, cut up one onion, one bell pepper and 2 cups of mushrooms, throw in 6 small tomatoes cut in 1/2 inch pieces. Add a medium can of tomato sauce.
3 large pinches of oregano.
2 large pinches of basil
3 bay leaves.
One whole clove of garlic. peeled and crushed. I mean the whole thing with all the segments cleaned and diced or put through a garlic press.
Salt and pepper to taste.
two table spoons of olive oil
1/2 cup of crappy red wine.
Cook till it smells like heaven
serve over noodles. spagetti, fetuchini. doesn't matter any noodle will do.
They will think you are a genius!
If there is not enough sauce throw in another can of tomato sauce.
