No, I'm not dating her, not trying to get brownie points either. I just like her and would like to give her a gift.

If its just friendship, a giftcard is a great idea in a card that says happy birthday, just a cute simple card.
If you don't like giftcards think of something that she likes, if she likes reading, get a book for her by an author she likes (you might need to cleverly ask her about it, "You need such and such, so do I, have you read ____?"
Or if her phone is a minute phone, get her a card, I'm sure she'll appreciate that too.
