Many slugs indicate that they can be fired through any FIXED choke, but Improved Cylinder or a slug barrel is best. NEVER shoot a slug through ANY interchangeable or adjustable choke! I used to use 3" slugs in an old HR single shot 12 ga. with a modified choke. It kicked like a mule, but it worked.

YES, You CAN shoot rifled slugs thru a modified choke shotgun. As an alternative to lead slugs however, I have found that shooting Sabot Slugs to be twice as accurate thru a modified choke gun. Sabot slugs are a hardened lead alloy slug of lesser diameter encased in a plastic sleeve. Once the sleeved slug leaves the end of the barrel the plastic casing falls away and the slug continues to the target/animal etc. These can increase your accuracy by almost 30%, and the muzzle energy also increases significantly This results in higher impact, reduced slug drop at extended range, and tighter grouping of shots. The plastic sleeve is the only thing in contact with the barrel at the time it's fired and the pass thru quickly with absolutely no chance of damaging your shotgun barrel. They cost a little more but they are well worth the difference. They also come in a soft lead hollow point version, that when fired expand to the size of a quarter on impact, transfering even more impact energy to the game.

Your modified choke will be fine for shooting slugs. Barrels made for shooting slugs are cylinder bores but the mod. choke will handle slugs too. Before I bought a slug gun with a rifled barrel I killed many deer with a Browning Auto 5 with a mod. choke. If you plan on using a slug gun to hunt with you should consider a slug barrel. It will increase your accuracy. Remember though, a shotgun with slugs is going to be a short range gun compared to a rifle but they are still effective.

Yes, however you porbly want to stick with a soft lead slug as a slug that is to hard can cause bulging with time.
