Armour thyroid is a much better choice. My husband also hates synthroid. He says it makes his throat swell and his eyes jump.

I bumped into a good online resource about hypothyroidism (a desease I'm trying to overcome myself).
Check it out here http://hypothyroidism.toptips.org
I have personally tested this method and I had great results.
Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the levels of thyroid hormones in the blood are increased and is characterised by a metabolic imbalance. The thyroid gland is a small endocrine gland located at the base of the neck. It produces thyroid hormone, which control various body functions. Hyperthyroidism or thyrotoxicosis results from excess quantities of thyroid hormone in the body.
With the metod that i posted above you can definitely get rid of hypothyroidism

No, nut you can try coconut oil to eat. OR you may be one of those people (like me) who cannot easily convert thyroxine T4 into the active T3 so you might need supplements of that called liiothyronine. Maybe you should talk to your GP about it, although I suggest you research it first in case he is the non-listening type! Try about.com as they have a great thyroid site, and also google.co.uk as there are some english sites as well.
Good luck - although I have to say, even after almost 15 years on medication for hypothyroidism, it is rare NOT to feel exhausted all the time, and want to sleep more, and have zilch libido as well - so hope you do better than me...

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland that sits low on the front of the neck. Your thyroid lies below your Adam’s apple, along the front of the windpipe. The thyroid has two side lobes, connected by a bridge (isthmus) in the middle. When the thyroid is its normal size, you’re unlikely to be able to feel it.
All types of hyperthyroidism are due to overproduction of thyroid hormones, but the condition can develop in several ways.
Thyroid hormone production can be suppressed or halted completely in these ways: https://tr.im/qD8qW

I take Levothyroxine and I don't have any side effects from it. I have to have my blood tested every 4-6 months to see if I need a change in the dosage. I have had my dosage changed about 4 times during the 3 years I've been on it. Have you been getting your blood checked regularly to make sure you are on the correct dosage?

Some thyroid disorders can be cured, but many require lifetime treatment. Learn here https://tr.im/rbfCT
For example, sometimes early stage thyroid cancer can be cured by surgery to remove the thyroid gland, but you will need to take thyroid hormone medication afterwards for the rest of your life. Goiters can also be surgically removed and do not always recur after surgery. In most cases, thyroid disorders need treatment over a lifetime. However, with treatment most people with thyroid disorders can live normal, healthy lives.

Your dose may be too low, get your blood levels checked: free and total t3 and 4, plus reverse t3. t3 runs everything in your body from your head to toes. a reverse t3 shows how much t3 your body can USE out of what is in your blood stream TO use. sometimes t3 is low even if you have a 'normal' level. low reverse t3 indicates you need to raise your dose. if you are taking synthroid brand they use acacia gum as a filler and many people are allergic to this tree extract.
some people do well on armour thyroid which is natural and made out of piggie thyroid glands, genetically pigs are very close to humans and why it works well.
(i have lived without a thyroid for 10 years, many doctors do not even know what a reverse t3 test is, just be pushy--it's your life)

Perhaps your dose is not quite right.
Thyroxine is given as your body is not making enough or any. Its a replacement hormone. Without it you will be in a coma.
