Is religion important in society?

unfortunately yes , it is just that some religions try to be better than others ,then it forces its followers to degrade the others and even go so far as to let their followers murder other religions followers.

You may have noticed that there are groups working at the task of removing religion from society - they work at the task day and night with fervor. Yes, it is extremely important in society, but what is that to a
person who does not believe in God? Those ungodly will not stop until they end even all speech in society that has anything to do with Faith.
BUT, this was all prophecied by Christ. It
is called the Great Apostasy, which is a falling away of ones professed beliefs.
The entire World will go the way of the apostasy, with the only exceptions being that of Gods firstfruits, or Election.
These will stand stedfast, regardless of the
temperature in the kitchen. We are moving
swiftly forward. Prophecies that used to come to pass years apart, are now coming
oftentimes monthly or weekly. The birth
pains is how Christ described it: they get closer and closer until the end of the labor.
This is exactly what is going on in the World today, and in our society.

To some people it is. They think that through Divine Command Theory, the problems that society faces will be much less. However, there are those that say religion actually contributes to the problems of society.

So it varies with who you ask.

Not anymore..its not. People are more capable of thinking for themselves and besides, the myth where religion=morality and the unreligious=amoral has been recognised as a false ideology by enlightened people.
And plus, we have enough of nut cases in society who take their religion way too far and cause harm to others.

So far... the more "Religious" a country/society/community seems to be, the more violent, intolerant and vicious its citizens seem to behave an evolve into.

If religion promotes a degeneration of human values, it is important to destroy religion itself.

If religion goes on to nurture, evolve and enhance society and its harmony.... then it is important as a major part of that society.

So far.... religion of all kinds have only proven to be causing harm the people physically thru wars and violence AND mentally by limiting their minds into intolerant attitudes.

faith is particularly slowly fading from the Western international. particularly of folk transforming into a member of the main religions (Christianity, The Islam), we are transforming into a clean-age, Pagan society, as Paganism keeps on transforming into. yet with the welfare, paintings and social get-aways, who would nevertheless choose to be religious?

Religion has inspired the greatest art works in history.

However people need ceremonies and rituals like weddings, funerals, and graduations. Without them we just aren't the same.

Everything else about religion, like dogma and stuff is useless.

I think it was, but I think it's time has passed. Uneducated people were moral out of fear and guilt. We're not the ignorant masses anymore. Educated people don't need a religion to be ethical.

religion used to help enforce the rules of a society - people strayed from religion because it no longer allowed them freedom or because the enforcers of the religion were not adaptable enough to keep up.
