To say that Roman Catholiscism is the only true religion? How many anglicans are offended to the core by this old man's (ex hitler youth) overly pious decree? How can he still be allowed his primacy if he is so blind to the rather catholic world that embraces all colours, religions and creeds. I know that the pope himself talks with other religious leaders and imagine that God himself has time for even the buddhists. How can the leader of the Catholic church be so un-catholic?

Um, Hello, it's the Catholic church. They've spent most of history telling people that was right, what was wrong, and then changing their mind again.

Well...

The fact that Jesus himself had no desire for an organised religion that ended up being the Holy Roman Empire, went on crusades and burned so called witches. I think Jesus himself would give the pope a proper kicking in!

The pope is officially supposed to be infallable! Christianity says we are Christian because we follow the infallable one, then how can Christianity's No.1 believer then claim to be infallable, that is putting yourself on a par with God which is ambitious at best

The pope is a very arrogant political figure. His claim is a poor one. The only true religion is following that which we know in our hearts is good. Such as the atheist who does not kill under a labelled organisation BUT can still show love and common decentcy and respect for all. That is the true religion, in the heart not what club card you possess!

I didn't read what the Pope said, but I did hear some things from other people.

Apostolic succession is accomplished not by blood line, as some people think, but by laying on of hands in ordination. I, too, am an Anglican. We also claim aposotolic succession.

I have worked for the Catholic Church for many years. They tend to pay musicians better than most other churches. I have developed some fondness for the church. But when they were electing this pope, I was very concerned that it would be Ratizinger, and it is. Having read his theology when he was a cardinal, I could see that trouble was ahead.

Remember he started off by pissing off the Muslims.

It's sad to me, that when the world is already so very divided over religious lines, that the leader of over one BILLION people would fan the flames of division and fear.

If you think about it, the pope and the catholic religion has been in power of many peoples lives for quite a long time. Even countries for that matter.

When you have that much power for that long it would probably be hard not to be arrogant. Its the biggest monarchy in the world and he was voted as king.

Un-catholic? That is what that religion is about. they have been trying to convert people since before Constantine.

new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

To say that Roman Catholiscism is the only true religion?

Well, that's what he gets paid for isn't it? To promote the Roman Catholic religion? Of course it would be better if he said that there was only one God and that salvation could be found in no other name than the name of Jesus, God's one and only Son. Then he would be following in the footsteps of the so called "first Pope" Peter and promoting the gospel message and the cause of Christ instead of a man made church.

Acts 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead--by him this man is standing before you well. 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Acts 15:7 And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. 8 And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, 9 and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith.

I saw this as a best answer on someone's question:

"Protestants don't believe in the Catholic Church anyway so why does it matter to them that the Pope said something to clarify and teach the faith to Catholics. "

Well that demonstrates that the people we look towards for guidance are just as imperfect as we are. Only, he gets to live in a nicer house and an interesting large funeral ceremony. Oh, and lots of money.

I think money isn't the issue, as such. Mother Teresa actually 'helped' people. I admire that deeply. And the Pope? Appointed and revered, for no actual credible reason.

Ironic that a man who in his youth belong to a society who tried to wipe out the Jews of this world should end up being the leader of the largest religion who worship a Jew...

Go wash your mouth out with soap and holy water!

The pope is god's mouthpiece on earth, and as such is infallible. One of the previous Popes even had a law passed, saying the Pope is infallible - because god told him he was. You can't question his Popeness, it's uncatholic - even if he is a faschist Jesuit and the most scary man in the Vatican.

Its kind of a requirement of the post that he believes in the catholic religion. Saying it is the one true religion does not make him intolerant it just means he is biased towards catholicism.

You would never catch him saying:
"Thanks for selecting me as your pope, I'm not sure about this catholic religion maybe we should consider converting to something else"
