We see the police allowing these yobs to carry on with yob behaviour on the street.

The problem is, is that when the police do arrest these yobs, they are sent to court where they are either let off with community service, a small fine or an ASBO, all of which do nothing to deter their behaviour. They walk out of court with a big smile on their face and go back to behaving the same way they were doing before. What exactly are the police supposed to do? They can either give them a warning, for which they will either be hurled abuse at for or attacked and if they are arrested the courts do nothing. Can you suggest another approach the police can take?

WRONG.
We have so much crime and yobs causing havoc on our streets because the parents are useless.

You cannot blame police for the amount of crime or yob behaviour in society these days. Violence and crime is as old as history itself, but it is more prevalent today because we now live in an age where when something goes wrong, it is NEVER our fault. We ALWAYS have to blame someone or something else for our errors. If you're fat, you sue McDonalds for selling you fatty food. If you spill coffee on yourself while driving, you sue the fast food company for not putting a spill-proof lid on the cup. If you fall through a roof while breaking into someons house, you sue the owners for not having a safe roof structure. THAT is why there are so many fecking idiots on the streets.... because people have been allowed to become bleating, whinging idiots with no recourse to anything resembling common sense or personal responsibility.

The police can only do so much, and are dictated to by laws and guideleines drawn up by people who subscribe to this mentality.

Changes in society can only come from within the family itself. People must once again be allowed to teach their children wrong from right, and to punish them when they do wrong things. If a child is told in school that their parents are not allowed to smack them, they are being told that it is ok to misbehave, and there will be no real consequences for their actions. Most children now take this for fact by the time they are 8 years old. Misbehave.... it's ok. Nobody can punish you because you have rights. RUBBISH.

The sooner things return to the way they were in the 70's and 80's and before with parenting etc, the sooner we will have the better societal standards back.

Don't blame the police. It has NOTHING to do with them at the core of the issue you raise.

Unfortunately the Police have to deal with all sorts of crap that people phone up with, which prevents us patrolling and spending time on the real priorities.

I didn't join the Police to be a social worker.

When we do lock kids up for causing damage or disorderly behaviour all they get is a warning or a reprimand. If they get to court they get little or no punishment. We then get flak from their parents because obviously they've never done anything wrong and that locking them up was heavy-handed.

The Police are stretched to breaking point. Much of it is because of NCRS (National Crime Recording Standards). The government wanted a true reflection of crime. As a result the Police now have to record all crimes and waste time dealing with people who do not wish to complain. They have to take a statement of non-complaint, record the crime and track down the alleged offender, who then needs to be interviewed about the offence (even though there's no complaint).

So the next time you want the Police make sure that it is for a bone fide reason, and not something more suited to a social worker.

Likewise if you think you can do a better job then please apply. You will then find out like the rest of us did, that bureaucracy is rife and are hands are well and truly tied.

I don't think my answer will sit well with you, but i do think
the British bobby and the American police do a good
job under very difficult and dangerous times.
Criminals and, as you say,yob abound. The police do
not make these people behave in antisocial behaviour,
They are called out on the most trivial things, like being
locked out of homes or some silly call outs.Wasting
valuable police time. The job is fraught with danger and at times they only go home in a coffin,is your job like this ?
i do not think so or you would think before you question
the ability of our policemen.

You dont think the yobs have any control over their behaviour it is the police who causes them to behave like that because they are useless - very strange opinion

If you don't like the area you live in move out. The police can do things such as dispersal orders, hasbo's.

But then some doo gooder moaning git like your self comes along and say the kids cant move without the police coming down on them my kid got stopped and search by the police, all of a sudden the asbo and anti social behaviour orders are stopped. Your only to blame..

First of All BEHAVE.
I cant believe you have such a small minded attitude. the police do a very good job don't forget they are not above the Law, they cant just go around nicking "yobs". They have the law to obey as well. its the law that needs to be changed.

as for the Famous ASBO the youths treat them as Status symbols now. if you have a ASBO Your "cool".
the law has to improve & be more tougher.

Oh, John O... having been laughed off the board earlier for asking this question repeatedly, you are back under a flimsy disguise doing it again. wait till you REALLY need the police to come in and save your sorry self. I really hope you get your life saved by a police officer doing the sort of professional job they do as far as the red tape and regulations allow them to. Will you be suitably chagrined (look it up) then???

It aint the police that are uselless it's the politicians who make the laws and the parents who don't instill discipline who are uselless. If the politicians used their brain instead of following PC generated claptrap and the fad of the day and parents disciplined their children the police may have a chance
