how long will it take for my body to return to normal, including my mind? No more depression?

I'm not sure I understand either. You stopped a painkiller cold turkey for 3 weeks, then went to the doc, who is attempting to *taper* you from this same med? Why weren't you just honest with the doc. If you've been cold turkey for 3 weeks, you were already over the hardest part (detox). Now, you're going back on the meds, but on a tapered dose? Follow the doctor's orders at this point, especially if you've already taken a dose. Make another appointment and tell doc you're depressed. It can take several weeks for your body to return to normal. Your mind (the cravings and depression) can take longer. Ask the doc for a referral to a therapist.

Good luck to you. And BTW, my hat's off to ya, for doing the cold turkey thing for 3 weeks.

I don't really understand what you are saying. What medication is it? Did you stop for 3 weeks and then the doc put you back on the med? I have no idea how long it will take to return to normal. It depends on the medication, how long you took it for, and dosage.
