Hi, I hope you can help me. I live in the U.K but work abroad as a teacher. At the end of August I'm off to Tajikistan for one year. The school is booking my flight, but unusually they want to book my return at the same time. But, I wanted to fly on to Australia after I finish next may as I'm half way there anyway. The questions are;
- Can I fly to India from Dushanbe (or directly to Australia)?
- Can I fly to Australia from India on a one way ticket and buy a return in Oz? (This sounds unlikely to me)
Thanks for your time.
- Do I need a visa for Oz. I want to stay for 2 months?

If you are a British citizen you won't need a paper visa to stay 2 months although you will need to get an electronic visa to enter Australia. It can be purchased from the Australian immigration website www.immi.gov.au and is valid for 12 months for visits up to 90 days at a time.

You will not be able to enter Australia on a one way ticket as the airline you will travel on will not uplift you without the correct visa/outward or return ticket. Hope this helps!

You can get an Aussie ETA online. I have US passport and I have flown into Australia on one-way tickets several times. Never any problems. I have been asked "do you have a return ticket?" I answer, "no, I might decide to go elsewhere. I haven't bought the ticket". They say ok. I should think it is just as easy for UK passport holders.
