I scattered some paper towel shreddings around his cage, and hes picking them up and running around with them, and itching himself like crazy. I have used this paper towel before, so I know its not scented, and stuff, but he seems to be going crazy.

Hes also burying it...

What the...?

Ive been using them for months, but I would set up the nest for them. This time I wanted to see what would happen if I made them build it.

Could just be making a nest. It also could be allergies, this time when the paper towel were made they could have used something different.

But most likey excited about something to do. Doesnt take much to entertain a hamster. Mine are easily entertained.

LOL...dunno approximately hamsters, yet i'm going to have the international checklist going for hedgehogs!! Ms. Sticky Buns is approximately 10 a million/2 and their existence expectancy is 5-8 twelve months at ultimate. YIKES! She's outlived many infants!

Sounds like nest building to me . If his cage is clean ,and you are using a an unscented bedding such as Aspin shavings, he is more than likely just grooming himself.
Paper towel is soiled quickly .Aspin shavings are a better choice for overall bedding. My hammy loves a nice dark spot with 100% raw cotton bedding from the pet store.

probably trying to make a nest somewhere.

some of my old hamsters would take all the bedding out of their house and make a nest somewhere else in the cage.

He was just building his nest, the itching might be him cleaning himself use tissues that aren't scented next time. (Tissues are better)

It sounds like an allergic reaction. Just wash him . take out the paper towel shredings and if he still does that wash him again .It could be his food.

Usually are from unsanitory condition, poor care, parasites picked up from other pets( continual scratching)
