Some of it is like emotional pain. Physical and physiological pain is not a psychological feeling, they are physical feelings.

No, pain is not just a psychological feeling. It is also a very real physical problem for many millions of people. Thanks to organizations that work on behalf of chronic pain patients drs and the public are starting to recognize that pain is very real because of all the physical damage it can do if the pain is not treated properly.

Many doctors are now coming to the conclusion that pain is actually physical. I read an article a week ago in my doctor's office which said that after an injury there are actually pain pathways that form in the brain long after the injury is healed. This is leading to new and better forms of pain control by finding a way to block these pathways. Of course, everyone is an individual and, for me personally, we (my doctor and I) found that 70 mg. of Percocet/Oxyxodone are what it takes to control my pain. But - pain can be aggravated by negative emotions just as they can be helped by a positive attitude. But pain is real and not "In your head."

It's possible to argue that pain is all psychological, since it wouldn't exist if without the nervous system. There is research into Substance P which is released by nerves experiencing pain.

Pain is there for a purpose. It alerts us to a problem. If something didn't hurt we would just go on doing ourselves harm - like when we touch a hot oven and it burns our finger.
